For Sale: 1965 Pontiac GTO in Charlotte, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

The beloved GTO is a direct result of what happens when a renegade car division that's ran by busted-knuckle gearheads defies corporate culture, 'borrows' Ferrari's most coveted name and stages an octane-fueled war against crosstown rivals. It offered buyers the very real opportunity to walk in to a Pontiac showroom and, with the flip of a checkbook, purchase a one-way ticket to hot style and big performance. Today, classics like this cool resto-mod, featuring a massaged big block, a tough Muncie 4-speed and crisp aesthetics, are perfect cruisers for enthusiasts who want to prowl the show field and burn up the streets. Looking to add a little fun to your weekends? Time to feel the glory of an old school muscle car!

AUTHENTIC BURGUNDY GTO

Fully sorted and ready to roll, this authentic, fully documented GTO is the beneficiary of detailed, ground-up restoration that was meticulously freshened in late 2022. All that lovable charm was carefully sealed in a correct layer of glossy Burgundy two-stage. And today, the car rolls as uniquely familiar Americana that's easy to live with and even easier to look at! The exhibit kicks off with a prominent Pontiac grille that hangs bold "G T O" lettering between stainless-trimmed T3 headlights and an ornate arrowhead emblem. A polished bumper bends into a sculpted profile, which floats conservative rocker guards beneath a polished mirror, polished door handles and tasteful GTO badging. A flat hood props a small scoop in front of stainless-trimmed glass that's cleared by mirrored wipers. And at the back of the car, a second polished bumper centers correct reverse lamps beneath a small Hurst emblem, a requisite "GTO" badge and a stylish, "PONTIAC" branded valance that hides bright taillights.

PONTIAC STROKER POWER

Hoist the hood and you'll see the cool glow of 521 cubic inches of thoroughbred Pontiac power. That buff stroker, beginning life as a 1967 Pontiac 400, breathes through three polished air cleaners that feed three Rochester 2-barrels. The bottom half of that storied tri-power set-up includes an iron Pontiac intake, which feeds iron Pontiac heads that dress smooth roller rockers with polished valve covers and polished breathers. A forged crank turns Eagle H-beam rods and forged JE pistons under a hydraulic roller cam and hydraulic roller lifters. An old school points distributor fires loomed Packard TVRS wires, which split restored exhaust manifolds. Pliable V-belts spin a Delco alternator above factory power steering. The Satin Black engine bay is detailed with correct marks, correct decals, a factory radiator, a factory brake booster and a Delco-topped battery.

BUILT TO LAST

Bottom-side, power flows through a tough Muncie 4-speed. That gearbox fronts a tough 12-bolt axle that, sourced from a 1969 Oldsmobile, twists big, 3.90 gears inside a posi-traction differential. That drivetrain rides a tagged and rebuilt factory suspension that's caged in stiff sway bars. Those bones get lead by correct power steering. Correct power-assisted drums create confident stops. Mandrel-bent exhaust centers an X-pipe crossover in front of Pypes Race Pro mufflers and correct side-splitter tips. And everything rolls on handsome Pontiac Rally Is, which spin 7.75-14 Firestone Deluxe Champion redlines around stainless trim rings and stainless center caps.

ENJOY THE RIDE

Swing the doors and you'll find a stunning Parchment interior that, naturally, feels like the perfect place to spend a warm summer evening. Front and center, correct factory buckets frame a correct console. That streamlined island, fashioned around a familiar Hurst shifter, surfs deep, fade-free carpet between bright, pick-free side panels. The engine's vitals are registered by correct Pontiac Rally gauges, which ride an ornate dash that's spiced with correct Delco pushbutton audio. And the driver spins a handsome wheel around a requisite teal centerpiece.

It's no wonder GM's excitement division enjoys such huge popularity despite being over a decade removed from the new car market. With storied power, unmatched swagger and enough curb appeal to make every day picturesque, Pontiac muscle cars feature a perfect combination of form and functionality.
