This superb 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX Custom has only 7,400 original miles and is a one owner vehicle. It’s extremely clean and tastefully customized. The Subaru WRX is an all-wheel drive sport compact car that was originally based on the Impreza created for the World Rally Championship in 1992. Subaru claimed the name WRX stands for “World Rally Experiential”. The Impreza WRX debuted in the US for the 2002 model year which makes it collectable among enthusiasts. This car is accompanied with a clean Car Fax report that documents the low mileage. Let it be known that the Car Fax report indicates multiple owners but it’s only had one owner who moved from California to Colorado to Rhode Island and had to re-title the car for registration purposes. The car was purchased from Subaru of San Bernardino located in California by Jimmy Hanashian on July 2nd, 2001. Jimmy is an engineer by trade and true automotive enthusiast. Jimmy purchased this car as a second vehicle and didn’t use it as a daily driver hence the extremely low mileage. He wanted to enhance his new WRX both cosmetically and mechanically which he was passionate about. He started making improvements in 2001 and completed everything in 2005. As the receipts document he invested a total of $51,871.44 above the original price of the car. The car was never raced or driven in the rain. It’s been stored in a climate controlled garage since it was new. Jimmy decided to sell the car after 20 years of ownership. He contacted MS CLASSIC CARS before marketing the car. MS CLASSIC CARS purchased the car on November 9th, 2022. This is the first time it’s ever been offered for sale.
The exterior of this car is in excellent original condition. This second generation WRX is referred to as the “Bug Eye” with its distinctive headlights. It features an aluminum-alloy hood with a functional scoop and stylish bumpers. The car sports its original factory Silver paint with exception of the driver’s pillar. The factory small antenna was removed for a smooth look and paint blended. The paint was tested with an electronic paint meter by MS CLASSIC CARS and passed as original paint. The paint was recently detailed to show quality shine. The exterior does have a few imperfections as expected with any 20 year old vehicle. The windows were professionally tinted which match the black accents such as the grill and rocker moldings. A custom rear spoiler was added to the trunk lid giving it a unique design. The car sits on authentic Volk Racing TE37 18 x 8 ½ wheels that were powder coated to match. These wheels are now considered vintage and very desirable among enthusiasts. The wheels are wrapped with new Continental Extreme Contact Sport 225-40-18 tires.
The interior of this car is also in excellent original condition. This interior still looks and smells new. The cabin features bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black cloth with blue patterned inserts joined by matching door panel inserts. The factory gauge cluster features yellow instrument needles and includes a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer with 7K-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The factory equipped four-spoke MOMO airbag steering wheel is wrapped in perforated leather, and additional equipment includes an AM/FM cassette stereo with an in-dash 6-disc changer, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, power mirrors and power door locks. It’s been outfitted with center console mounted custom HKS 4402-SA oil temp, boost and EGT white face gauges. It still has the original factory WRX floor mats that are in very good condition. The trunk compartment is super clean and home to the original factory spare wheel and tire.
The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout. It retains all the original factory tags, stickers and assembly paint markings. The car is powered by an upgraded new 2.5 STI Turbo charged engine that was dyno tested in November 2022 with 248 wheel horsepower which is roughly 300 horsepower at the crank. It’s currently running 17 pounds of boost. The engine was ordered as a long block. Some of the engine parts include Carrillo Con rods, CP forged pistons, ARP head studs, Rally multi-layer head gasket set, Garrett Hybrid BB Turbo kit with 32 PSI, AVO intake system, AVO single mass flywheel, AVO Blow-off valve, High Performance intake and exhaust valves, oil cooler, fuel pump kit, custom fuel rails, custom high capacity top mounted intercooler and L.E.M. Plug in link ECU. The engine breathes through AVO 3” polished exhaust system with chrome tip. The engine is coupled to an upgraded Pfitzner 5-speed manual transmission with 4 gear hellcal (syncro). It’s equipped with ½ and ¾ billet selector forks, high performance seal kit and short shift kit. Just the transmission alone was $6,539.47! It’s been outfitted with a 6-Puck clutch kit to handle the additional power. It has the factory limited slip differential. The new engine has approximately 1,100 miles on it.
The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout. It also retains all the original factory tags, stickers and assembly paint markings. The upgraded suspension parts consist of Tein Flex Z adjustable coil overs, DMS sway bars and DMS strut tower braces. The upgraded braking system consists of Stop Tech Big Brakes with 4-piston calipers and 330mm slotted rotors.
