Vehicle Description
2003 Honda S2000 Roadster
The Honda S2000 is a roadster manufactured by the Japanese
automaker Honda Motor Company. It was launched in April 1999 and
was created to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary. The car
was first shown as a concept at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1995,
following which it was launched in world markets in 1999. The S2000
is named for its engine displacement of 2.0 Liters, carrying on in
the tradition of the S500, S600, and S800 roadsters of the 1960s.
Several revisions were made throughout the car's lifetime,
including changes to the engine, gearbox, suspension and interior
and exterior. Officially two model designations exist: the initial
launch model was called the AP1, while the AP2 designation was
given to the models produced from 2004 onwards which contained
substantial changes to the drivetrain and suspension. Production of
the S2000 ceased in June of 2009.
A third year roadster for consignment in good overall condition
with a mere 47,546 verified miles and set up for hill climb
competition or autocross racing but still remaining street legal
and Pennsylvania inspected, heck it even still has working AC. This
car has a black fiberglass hardtop, the soft top has been removed
but is available,a roll cage has been added for safety, the
interior was partially stripped in the name of weightsavings and
for the roll cage installation, and a host of suspension work has
been performed to makesure you stick to the tarmac. A binder of
paperwork comes with your purchase, the factory interior parts are
available as well, and I can speak from personal experience, this
car goes like stink. A racy package with Honda reliability, what
more could you ask for?
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by
the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws
to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public
highways in your area.*
Exterior
Sedate Silverstone Metallic in good condition but not without its
faults drapes this British inspired sports car. A few scuffs and
scrapes are present and have been touched up, these are worn as
badges of honor from prior hot laps and racing. A removable black
fiberglass hardtop covers the cockpit and the factory soft top,
while removed, is included with your purchase. Rounded bumpers,
steel rockers, aluminum body panels and all the bulbous sporty
design is all bathed in silver with only the emblems left to shine,
although the factory finish does retain its shine. Tow hooks
protrude through the front and rear bumpers and atop the short
trunk lidresides a molded carbon fiber spoiler. 17-inch Enkei PF01
wheels are wrapped in Hoosier racing slicks and up front flush
mount aerodynamic headlights are on tocreate an extremely menacing
look and integrated rounded tail lights wrap around the rear
quarters. Small but mighty with some slipstream design added
in.
Interior
Smooth red leather covers the sleek door panels on the inside which
are fitted with power window, power mirror toggles and a perforated
black door pull. For the driver, we note a Sparco Sprint racing
seat complete with a 6 point camlock harness. The passenger can
rest theirposterior on the factory red leather bucket. This seat
has exaggerated body hugging bolsters and a broad stitched insert
pattern along with a openhalo mesh fitted headrest. Another racing
harness is onfor the passenger. Not a fan of the racing seat?
That's ok, as our consignor is including the factory red leather
driver's seat. A red leather coveredconsole races forward to meet
the dash and holds the short arm shifter,a roof dial switch, and a
small storage area. The factory red leather shod dash meets up with
the console presenting with a red leather flip down cover that
reveals the factory stereo system and a trio of black face
AutoMeter gauges to monitor engine vitals are mounted atop the
dash. The factory cluster is set in front of the driver and retains
the heat and AC dials, both of which are still functional. More
weight savings are in order with the removal of the carpeting,
allowing us to see the gray painted steel flooring that remains
rust free. A Piper Motorsport SCCA time trial approved 6 point roll
cage has been installed should you put this racer turtle, and we
note a kill switch added to the driver's downbar of the roll
cage.
Drivetrain
A screaming red and silver zonker resides in the long but narrow
engine bay. This mill specs out as a 2.0 liter DOHC 4-cylinder twin
cam engine is fed by EFI capable of making 240hp. Thatpeak number
is achieved at abuzzing 8,300rpm and the redline is a staggering
9,000rpm. An AEM cold air intake is on for a few extra ponies and
mated to the back is a 6-speed manual transmission, and all run
very smoothly. 4.10 gears are powering the limited slip rear
axle.
Undercarriage
Slight surface rust is emerging from the suspension parts, but all
is solid unibody construction with good floor pans, and rockers. CR
track springs have been added to the front and rear independent
coil sprung suspension, and should you want to go full send in the
grip department our consignor is including JRI adjustable struts
and PAC springs at no cost, a $5,000 value. We note the addition of
a 30mm Whiteline front sway bar and custom exhaust with a test pipe
in place of the catalytic converter is seen but is available. For
stopping power Wilwood Track Day front disc brakes are on and in
the rear we see factory disc brakes. Stainless steel lines and
slotted rotors have been added to the brake system and have Hawk HP
plus pads all the way around.
Drive-Ability
Thanks to my ever so slightly rotund build, fitting in this little
sports car was a no go, so I enlisted the help of my ever so
slightly less overweight partner in crime to man the wheel. After a
comedy of errors watching him get strapped into the driver's seat
the car started and immediately fell into a smooth but sinister
idle. On our test track the car performed with the best of them,
with cat on the carpet handling, blistering acceleration and stop
on a dime and give change braking. All functions were working
properly including the power windows, heat and even the AC. A race
car with amenities, we truly are in Valhalla!
The advertising of the day preached "The product of 22 years of
Formula 1 racing. You'll love it in a second" any I would say that
statement is spot on. Fast, nimble, but sedate appearing at first
glance, that is until you turn the key and you're warped into a
racing dreamscape....wait, this isn't a dream. It's reality and
waiting for you in the Hallowed Halls of our beloved Classic Auto
Mall.
