Vehicle Description
Here's one of the most interesting and affordable collectibles you
can get your hands on right now. This 1992 Dodge Daytona IROC R/T
brings together legendary names like Lotus into the mix for a fun
low-batch coupe. And this example is coming off of long-term
ownership, and it proves that a few of the right people were paying
attention when these special Mopars were made.
The power cars from Mopar seem to only be done by the handful, and
this one is no exception. It's believed that there were only about
250 IROC R/T Daytonas made in 1992, and of those only 60 are
believed to be in black. What makes the R/Ts so special is that
there's a turbo powerhouse with some awesome pedigree. And while
we'll get to more on that in a moment, take some time to appreciate
the car's style. This example has spent about two-thirds of its
life thus far with the same owner. He drove it and enjoyed it (the
odometer is believed to represent the full mileage,) but it was
done with care and respect. And that's likely your plan for this
one, too. So you'll find dings from the car next to it in the
garage and maybe want to do a headlight restoration, but the
overall package is quite impressive. The black paint has the sleek
look of a quality later respray. It helps highlight awesome
details, like the factory IROC body kit, well-integrated rear
spoiler, and the revised aerodynamic styling that was only
available for the last couple of years. And those distinct 16-inch
alloys are going to be a big hit at Radwood.
The dark gray/black interior is highly stock and quite comfortable.
It's quite clean and complete with body-hugging front bucket seats
finished in a comfy velour. The idea behind this is to be a unique
car you want to drive, and so just like the exterior, you'll find
some use... but not abuse. This is a range-topping model, and so it
comes with terrific factory features like power windows, power
locks, cruise control, and an overhead console. There are some nice
additions you want in a classic made for driving like ceramic
window tint and an AM/FM/CD stereo with aux input. There are even
new A/C components that come with the sale so you can get it
consistently ice-cold. But the best part of this Daytona R/T is how
it engages your enthusiast side. You have a leather-wrapped airbag
seeing wheel on a tilt column, a shifter that's contoured for your
right hand, and a full gauge package with handy tach and fun boost
readout.
The exterior and interior have a dark kind of style, and so when
you lift the hood, all the red on the motor really radiates. And
this one is worth the extra attention. It's the special Turbo III
powerhouse that utilized the hardy 2.2-liter Chrysler motor with a
redesigned DOHC 16-valve head from the power masters at Lotus. And
when you add a turbocharger to this, there is a terrific experience
of low-end acceleration that plays nicely into the turbo boost. So
this car is QUICK when you want some serious hustle, and the
five-speed manual transmission gives you the control to be in the
center of the action. And because this is a long-term cherished
car, it has been treated correctly. We're even told large items
have been addressed within the last few years, including the timing
belt, head gasket, and clutch. That's why this one feels as
confident as a daily driver. Add in power steering, a sport-tuned
suspension, and four-wheel power disc brakes, and you can start to
understand why this is a cool classic that's also an easy anytime
choice.
Complete with the owner's manual, this is rarity, quickness, and
affordability in a sleekly dark package. But for the same reasons
why it's attractive to you also makes it irresistible to others,
too. So you should hurry if you want to take this one home. Call
