1937 Packard 1508 V-12 Limousine - MILAN, ITALY AUTO SHOW CAR!
Located near EUGENE, OREGON.
As confirmed by the data plate, we are told this Packard was originally delivered from the factory in Detroit to the 1937 Milan Auto Show, where it was a featured car. Following the show it was displayed at the dealer showroom, Agenzie Riunite Automobili S.A. in Milan and sold on November 12, 1937 to Count Francesco Martinengo, member of a prominent and aristocratic Milanese family. As a purported member of the Italian Diplomatic Corps, apparently Count Martinengo had the need for a hidden safe, which was installed behind the rear seat and accessible through the trunk. While no longer there, examination of the unholstery in the trunk's interior bulkhead today reveals the outline of the safe's location.
Following the Count's ownership, the history of the car is unknown until it returned to the United States where it was sold in 1972. Later, a full restoration was carried out between 1998 and 2016.
Wood framed metal body is excellent. Doors hang properly with no sag and close with a touch. The body was stripped and repainted in a color dubbed "Bank Note Green," which is similar to 1937 Packard "Dawn Gray" with a slight green cast. A lovely, sublte color with a deep shine and no flaws. All chrome was re-plated and trim polished and appears excellent today. Replaced top insert is leak-free. Beautiful chrome hubcaps with cloisonne center medallions.
The interior is also fully restored. Black leather in the chauffeur's compartment and correct gray wool broadcloth in the rear compartment. Wool carpeting. All interior wood was beautifully refinished. All glass is excellent, including the division window between the front and rear compartments. Dual jump seats provide additional seating for two. Privacy blinds in the back window and rear quarter windows.
This car is nicely optioned with turn signals, factory radio, dual-sidemounted spare tires with metal covers and mirrors, dual back-up lights, dual Trippe driving lights, trunk rack with color-matched Packard trunk, and cormorant radiator mascot. A beautiful package.

Mechanically excellent throughout. Rebuilt original 472 cubic inch V-12 engine runs smooth and near-silent at idle. No smoke or issues. Plenty of power. Dual 6-volt Optimas batteries. 3-speed manual transmission shifts crisply and effortlessly. High-speed gears makes this a pleasurable highway tour car that will easily keep up with (and pass) modern traffic. Vacuum-assisted hydraulic brakes stop smooth and straight. Steering is tight and holds the road very well with Packard independent front suspension and newer radial tires all-around. Undercarriage is clean and rust-free. Rides on a 144 inch wheelbase. Truly an impressive Packard from every angle.
Approximately 3,000 miles since completion of the restoration. The current owner toured this car in local and regional Classic Car Club events where it has always performed beautifully.
