restoration, this sweet Chevelle might just be the ultimate
resto-mod. Visually, that exclusive status is achieved through
solid sheetmetal that, thanks to the pros at Frederick, Maryland's
Givens Collision, is dressed in silky metallic pigment which casts
exceptional Indigo reflections. Naturally, that crisp General
Motors two-stage includes traditional Classic White Rally Stripes.
And it all adds up to one stunning Chevy coupe that rolls as an
ardent champion for the best virtues of legendary American muscle:
style, performance AND approachability!
The car's clean profile kicks off with a stainless-trimmed Super
Sport grille, which floats a bold "SS" badge between traditional
headlights, stylish parking lamps and a broad bumper that's skinned
in flashy chrome. At the top of that grille, a pinned Cowl
Induction Hood traces a stainless-trimmed greenhouse, which is
capped in tight White vinyl. At the sides of the car, bright wheel
trim joins traditional Super Sport fender badging to add a little
pizzazz while chromed door handles perfectly complement factory
mirrors. And out back, a second broad bumper centers a clean Super
Sport inlay between a classy Chevelle emblem, polished exhaust tips
and traditional taillights.
FROM TURBO-JET TO RAM JET
Built to go just as well as it shows, this Chevy's 502 cubic inch
Ram Jet big block provides an excellent mix of fun times and fried
tires! At the top of the Jet Black mill, a polished GM Performance
Parts air cleaner funnels oxygen into a tall GM Performance Parts
intake. That intake feeds lightweight aluminum heads, which tilt
stylish Chevrolet valve covers under a bright, color-keyed
breather. The fires get lit by a traditional, points-style
distributor, which sequences fire through loomed GM Performance
Parts plug wires. At the front of those wires, a billet serpentine
drive spins a quality Stewart water pump between a polished
alternator and a polished AC compressor. Cooling is provided by a
beefy aluminum radiator, which aligns quick electric puller fans
behind a polished cap and a polished expansion tank. Spent gases
get whisked away by coated Hooker Competition headers. And
naturally, the buff motor rumbles in a fully finished engine bay
that's dotted with first rate hardware like braided hoses,
color-keyed sleeving and a stylish closeout panel.
RESTO-MOD: THE CAR OF THE PEOPLE
Park this Chevy on a lift and you'll find solid floorpans that are
poised to battle wet and dry roads alike. Behind the 502, a tough
hydraulic clutch kicks a tough Tremec TKO 600 5-speed that was
sourced directly from Keisler Engineering. That gearbox twists a
dressed 12-bolt axle. That pumpkin rides a factory-style 4-link
rear-clip that's built with a thick sway bar, boxed 3CFab Racing
trailing arms and trick Indigo Blue shocks. That clip pushes a
factory-style independent front-half, which floats lucid power
steering amid CPP control arms and Viking coil-over-shocks. Quick
stops come courtesy of power-assisted calipers, 4-piston Wilwoods
up front, which squeeze a quartet of rotors, drilled and slotted up
front. Charred dinosaurs traverse polished stainless pipes, which
roar through an X-shaped crossover, polished Pypes Race Pro
mufflers and polished, factory-style tips. And at the corners,
handsome U.S. Mags Bullets spin 245/40ZR20 Nitto NT555 G2s in front
of 275/40ZR20 Nitto NT555 G2s.
THE WAY IT SHOULD BE
The timeless Ivory interior hiding behind this Chevelle's glossy
doors is an era-correct factory affair that, 53 years after its
debut, is still both stylish and cool. Tall bucket seats frame a
factory console that's spiced with a traditional Hurst shifter. In
front of that island, a monochromatic dash hangs Deluxe Chevelle
Telemetry over Delco AM/FM audio and cool Vintage Air climate
control. That seat, dash and console trifecta is completely framed
by pliable Ivory side panels, which are dotted with shiny factory
hardware. Clean Black carpet is shaded by Pioneer kick speakers.
And the driver spins a handsome Chevrolet Rally Wheel around a
tilting column.
The product of a detailed, ground-up build that would probably take
a second mortgage to duplicate, this Chevy rolls on the right side
