Vehicle Description
1996 Chevrolet K-1500 Silverado Pickup
C/K is a series of trucks that were manufactured by General Motors.
Marketed under the Chevrolet and GMC brands, the C/K series
included a wide range of vehicles. While most commonly associated
with pickup trucks, the model line also included chassis-cab trucks
and medium-duty trucks and served as the basis for GM full-size
SUVs. Used for both the model branding and the internal model code,
"C" denoted two-wheel drive; "K" denoted four-wheel drive.
For consignment a 1996 Chevrolet K-1500 Silverado trimmed truck.
This one comes to us with some serious miles but still presenting
in fair condition. It is an all stock K-1500.
Exterior
Slightly non clear horizontal headlights on each top corner and
another horizontal light below which has clearer lenses, then the
turn signal wraps around the front quarter. A shiny horizontal bar
streaks across the central grille and sports a bowtie badge. Below
is a shiny bumper with a centrally located black strip and plate
holder. The extended cab, hood ,and bed all present in black which
covers the truck over 85 percent. The rest of the steel body,
including most of the rockers and lowers, are painted in a
contrasting tan. A 3D black trimming runs through the mid section
of this tan area. The rockers are showing some invasive rust, and
it has spread to the framing where it is showing up as surface rust
but heavy in places. The lower rust is evident mostly on the lower
doors where it has eaten though the bottomsof them. There is a
metal patch screwed into the lower on the driver's side just past
the door panel where the "Easy Access System" door is attached.
Tinted windows are also installed. The bed has a plastic ribbed
liner and there is a diamond plate steel chromed tool box just
behind the cab area. On the tailgate the C H E V R O L E T badge
has lost its black insertions so it blends with the horizontal
aluminum strip running across the tailgate. Deeply treaded
blackwall rubber is LT265/75R16 format wrap aluminum wheel on the
corners.
Interior
The doors are covered in tan leather small panels used as inserts
for the large molded plastic door panels. Below is some tan
carpeting which is showing soiling on the doors. Inside, wide
overstuffed tan leather seats are showing up front and also in the
crew cab area as a full 3 person bench. The leather has some
cracking and is showing wear and soiling as well. A center console
is on and on the back part the leather is wrinkled and damaged. The
dash is standard GM and the dash top has a few cracks within it. Up
front the seats are power operated, and these float on tan
carpeting which also shows soiling. HD floor mats cover the
carpeting. The headliner is a light tan and is remaining tight.
Drivetrain
Under the hood as we sift through the dust and patina, we note the
factory correct 5.0 Liter V8. It has EFI and a 4L60E 4-speed
automatic transmission on the back. The rear is a 10 bolt
version.
Undercarriage
Plenty of surface rust showing some more invasive than others
mostly in the framing which holds up the bed stamped steel. It also
presents on the spare tire wheel, rear axle and suspension and
front suspension. These are made up of independent torsion bar
front suspension and leaf sprung rear suspension. Power disc
braking is upfront and power drums on the rear.
Drive-Ability
This well worn truck fired right up and ran great on the test track
with all functions operational at the time of our drive.
Lots of history, lots of miles, some rust and still holding its own
with the original engine, and paint.A great hauler if there ever
was one!
