California car for three (3) decades, finished in its factory color
combination of Ossi Blue (6803) with Black leatherette interior.
Originally distributed by PoAC in Teaneck, New Jersey to the first
owner in New York City. Optional equipment from the factory
included U.S. Bumpers, Chrome Rims, and a Blaupunkt Frankfurt
Radio.
According to the Kardex, this 912 was first delivered to William
Cherry in New York City on August 30, 1968. The earliest known
history of the 912 begins in 1993 when the engine was removed from
the vehicle and disassembled to be rebuilt. The machine work was
performed by Luke's and Shorman, Inc, a well-known Porsche shop in
Concord, California. By 1995, the vehicle traded hands to Mr.
Thiessen who purchased the 912 as a project and continued the
engine rebuild. During the rebuild, the case was machined,
balanced, and blueprinted. The crankcase was line bored and
inspected. New main bearings, connecting rods, NOS camshaft, and
Cobinschmitt 1750cc pistons and cylinders were installed. The Solex
P40II carburetors were rebuilt to factory specifications and a
heavy-duty clutch and pressure plate were installed. On June 17,
2009, the vehicle was sold through Hubbard's German Auto Inc. to
the previous owner who had the 912 until 2021. European
Collectibles purchased this 912 in 2022 and has done a complete
engine out service, tune-up, and detail. The braking system has
been rebuilt and a full safety inspection has been performed.
The paintwork is in beautiful condition with excellent gaps and
panel fit. The exterior features aluminum trim, new rubber seals,
factory glass, and polished brightwork. The upholstery is partially
original and features one-year-only door pockets. A leather-wrapped
steering sits ahead of a restored set of VDO instrumentation, a
Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, and a brushed aluminum dash trim. Date-coded
chrome wheels are fitted to 185 65 R15 tires. The undercarriage is
fully detailed with no rust.
Mechanically powered by the matching 1600cc flat-four engine
(producing 100hp), paired to a 4-speed manual transmission and
four-wheel disc brakes. The engine compartment is fully detailed
and finished to a high standard with re-plated hardware and
powder-coated engine tin. Complete with owner's manual, Kardex,
spare tire, and three decades of service records. This is an
excellent opportunity to acquire a short-wheelbase 912 Coupe in its
factory color combination with a matching driveline.
