Vehicle Description
We love a good Saleen Mustang because they are all about
engineering added power and fortification into power pony cars. But
while a car like this 2002 Ford Mustang Saleen S281 is already a
hand-crafted custom, what would it be like if someone used Saleen's
added style and strengthening as a base to build something even
more powerful? That means adding to the body, interior, suspension,
and even more supercharged power. So if you want to know how
awesome this true speedster gets, read on...
This is a one-owner car that started life as a genuine Saleen S281.
That means an awesomely aggressive style where the convertible body
was upgraded with a new front fascia, lower rocker moldings,
integrated rear wing, and a special rear bumper with dual exhaust.
But we bet you've checked out Saleen machines before, and you know
there's more going on here. This has a meaner style than its Saleen
siblings thanks to an extended widebody kit. It looks awesomely
aggressive and it also channels air around the front and through
the fenders. Clear headlights with smoked backgrounds, tinted tail
light covers, and a Cobra R heat extractor hood are all part of
this upgraded attitude. And the Lamborghini-style doors are a fun
indicator that this has the power to take down supercars (more on
that in a moment.) We especially like the attention paid to the
color-matched attitude. You see it in large places, like how both
the speedster tonneau and 19-inch wheels are painted to match the
clean and factory-correct Mineral Gray paint. Plus, the black
racing stripes with red outline set up a color theme seen
everywhere from the Saleen badging to the gas cap. Even the wheels
utilize the racy red to highlight the Cobra center caps and large
brake calipers. Best of all, while this full package has an
especially aggressive attitude, the fit and finish tell the story
of a powerful custom that looks like it has been treated with the
top respect.
The scissor doors are your gateway to a loaded Mustang interior.
There's a long list of features like cruise control, power windows,
power locks, keyless entry/alarm, power steering, Flaming River
close ratio 12-1. The Pioneer deck is the hub for your infotainment
system that includes Bluetooth, sat nav, a backup camera, and a DD
Audio, two amp 2800 Watt, Speaker subwoofer stereo system. This is
a true speedster that looks awesome with the contoured tonneau and
bracing bar with integrated brake light always on display. So when
you're open to the world, it's also quite nice to have cold-blowing
air conditioning to help dial in your ideal atmosphere. We like how
the custom upholstery takes its cues from the exterior stripe, but
what's really attractive is you can be sitting in a race-ready
package. You have Recaro bucket seats, racing harnesses, additional
bracing behind the seats, an upgraded close ratio shifter, and a
flat-bottom sports steering wheel. And not only does this have the
Saleen white-faced gauges, but the upgraded A-pillar readouts were
done to coordinate.
If you've already checked out the engine bay or seen the callouts
on the hood, then you know this powerhouse is something quite
unique. This car was born an S-281, but today the designation
should be SC-383. That's because the motor is a fully-built
5.2-liter (323ci) fuel-injected V8 with a supercharger on top. In
fact, as you look through the receipts, you see this Mustang has
earned its Cobra badges by starting with a 5.0 liter 4V "Boss"
block for the supercharged "Terminator" Cobra. It was a full
professional build enlarged to 5.2 L and then fortified and
enhanced further. This includes a Scat crank, Manley pistons, Total
Seal rings, ARP bolts, Aa King bearing set, Cometic head gaskets,
and a Comp Cams camshaft. And the 3.4L Whipple supercharger on top
gives you supercar-level power at up to 27 psi backed up with a
Snow Performance two stage methanol system. The dyno sheet even
shows this with 898 RWHP horsepower, and it's claimed to be
preprogrammed with a quick change of the tuning that it can make
over 1,100 hp with E85 and methanol injection mix! The receipts
confirm the motor was done around 2018 with over $30k invested in
the motor alone. And while there is already low mileage on the
odometer, we're told the full package has only done about 1,500
miles since completion. So it's fresh, fortified, and absolutely
fast! Making sure the power gets to the pavement is a T56 Magnum
six-speed manual transmission featuring a Ford Racing flywheel and
McLeod twin-disc clutch. This feeds into an Eaton limited-slip rear
end. Enhancing the handling is a Maximum Motorsports tubular A-arms
front end with K-member support, adjustable coilovers, and a thick
sway bar. The rear includes a Maximum Motorsports four-link that
also includes adjustable coilovers and a thick sway bar. There are
also Baer four-wheel power disc brakes, Maximum Motorsports
subframe connectors, and sticky Nitto Invo tires for a total
performance package.
