Vehicle Description
1971 Chevrolet Malibu SS Tribute
The storied Chevelle is one of those timeless designs that looks
good no matter how it's built. Stock, modified, race, pro-touring,
whatever; the clean lines and balanced stance on these tough
classics create a confident swagger that's universally admired.
That means, if you're looking to ride in style, you really can't go
wrong with a Chevrolet A-Body. And when you factor in this ride's
small block drivetrain, tastefully redone interior and first rate,
all-American sheet metal, you get the picturesque profile of an
incredible muscle car!
For consignment, the Chevrolet Chevelle SS in a tribute restoration
garb, and from 1971. This car has been the beneficiary of a freshly
rebuilt 350ci V8 now with a 4bbl. It has a Hurst shifter, 15-inch
sport wheels, Pypes mufflers, and is presented in screaming
yellow.
Exterior
For 1971, the face-lifted Chevelle moved an impressive 387K units.
Not only did that high-profile success earn GM big money, it also
solidified the nameplate as part of Chevy's oft romanticized
'golden era'. At the front of this coupe, a split grille hangs a
prominent "SS" emblem between stainless-trimmed headlights and a
nicely chromed bumper. Opposite that bumper, a domed Super Sport
black striped hood leads the eye to fresh glass that's seated in
clean stainless frames. On top is a pristine black vinyl top which
stops the stripes and is just pure black, which is a nice contrast
to the body painted yellow otherwise. At the base of those glass
frames, chrome door handles, a chrome driver's mirror and
white-tinged "SS" badges complement correct dark cast 5 spoke
"Cragar Style" 15-inch Chevrolet SS wheels wrapped in raised white
letter BFG Radial T/A's. And at the back of the car, a second
chromed bumper hangs a standard SS central inlay badge. Round til
lighting is within the rear bumper. Some of the lowers of this car
show some rust repairs and active rust invasion, especially on the
lower rear quarters near the bumper.
Interior
Its correct combination of bench and bucket seats that are firm to
the touch, encased in black vinyl, original belts, and high backs,
(AKA as Strato buckets). In front of those seats, a straight Super
Sport dash frames new inserted OEM gauges clean and pristine
provide all the telemetry you'll need for those hot laps. Below
that dash, black carpet floats a black plastic console housing the
chrome armed Hurst white topped knobbed shifter that would make
Linda Vaughn proud. At the sides of that carpet, door panels center
classy stainless trim and requisite "SS" emblems on bright handles
and supple, comfortable armrests. In front of the driver the
steering wheel atop a black column and behind the passengers, the
car's fully restored trunk is finished with a correct jack and
full-size spare tire. The headliner is nice and tight and is also
black, and where the shoulder belts hang.
Drivetrain
Gaze into the satin black engine bay and you'll find a freshly
rebuilt 350ci V8 mill. On top is a 4-barrel carburetor and on back
is a Muncie M20 4-speed manual tranny. The rear axle weighs in at
12 bolts and 3.73 conventional gears. Chromed valve coverings,
Pypes exhaust and headers are now on this nice supple hose and high
power ignition wire mill.
Undercarriage
Well cared for showing aging gracefully would be the buzzword for
the undercarriage, with clean suspension, surface rust free floor
pans with some leftover undercoating, and straight rust free
rockers. Independent coil springs and 4 link with coil springs are
on for the suspension front and rear, and power disc brakes for the
front, and power drums for the rear.
Drive-Ability
Our muscle car aficionado snapped up this test drive, and when he
returned he just had a smile on his face and 2 thumbs up, so it
must have been good! He reported nice acceleration, smooth
shifting, good cornering and all the positive essentials were
working swimmingly. Overall it was very happy motoring.
A very nice example, ready to go and show with a simple turn of a
key. No wrenching, no bodywork, (at least immediate), no fuss no
muss, just pure SS tribute excitement and enjoyment all while
looking just fab! An SS if there ever was one!
