Retractable Hardtops are hard to come by, and a treat to have in our showroom. This 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner retractable takes it to the next level with a very 50s color combination and great condition inside and out!
The Skyliner was offered for 3 years, and production was lowest in 1959 with only 12,915 built! Right off the bat this is a rare collectible. This example has been restored and painted a lovely Salmon and white. Wide white wall tires on steel wheels with chrome hubcaps, chrome fender skirts on the rear, and enough chrome, stainless, and polished pieces to fit 3 cars make this a real attention grabber! Big 50s cars were all about chrome and fins, and this Skyliner has both! The 352 CID V8 is still under the hood, and it is show ready with the Ford Blue paint and Interceptor badging. That was the biggest and most powerful engine offering of the year with 300 horsepower! The H at the start of the VIN lets you know it was a 352 from the factory. You will also notice power rack and pinion steering and power brakes. That combination paired with front disc brakes make this car very enjoyable, even on long cruises.
The interior is jaw droppingly gorgeous with the same Salmon pink and white carried through, and blended with black and silver accents. The big comfortable split bench seat allows easy access to the back seat for your passengers. The interior is about as stock as they come with the exception of a set of aftermarket gauges mounted under the dash. This allows you to keep a closer eye on what the V8 engine is doing. The automatic transmission is shifted on the column, and personally this is the first one I've encountered that you don't have to mess with the shifter at all to start the car! The neutral safety switch is actually dialed in on this car.
The best part of this car is the retractable hardtop. With just a push of a button you can watch the trunk lid lift, the top lift and split and fold nicely into the trunk space, and get covered up. No bulky soft top bunched on the back of the car. No top boot to mess with. Just completely gone and out of sight.
