Vehicle Description
1937 Chevrolet Pickup
Chevrolet pickups had entered the "modern era" starting with the
1937 model year. For this model year, all new sheet metal was
introduced and the gaps in payload capacities were closed with the
addition of both -ton and 1-ton models. Styling was very
attractive and borrowed heavily from the passenger car line.
For consignment, a customized 1937 Chevrolet pickup truck. Looking
more like a mini K-Whopper with its dual square headlights frenched
in the front fenders and the large vertical ribbed grille. Couple
in snappy 14 and 15-inch polished wheels, long running boards
peppered with chrome ribs, a shaved rear bumper with dual exhaust
exiting out of the rear roll pan and a chrome bowtie diamond plate
badged rear tailgate, we are in big rig heaven right out of
1937.
Exterior
All steel bathed in beautiful deep end of the pool red paint adorns
the truck. The fenders are looking like they are produced on an
English wheel with large aero looking pulled backs to give the
illusion the truck is moving forward when it's just sitting there!
Amazing.... Flanking the wonderfully large shield styled vertical
ribbed chromed grille are the bulbous fenders now with dual square
headlights inset in either side. Some rectangular parking and turn
signal lighting is also below. As our eye moves rearward we scan
past a cowled hood with some black horizontal trimmings on either
side to add dimension. A rounded over cab and roofline goes
perfectly with those exaggerated fenders. Nicely preserved running
boards with some chromed ribs with them connect the fenders. On the
back, a steel box with rolled over edges, all painted red and has
black vinyl sides and a black vinyl snap on covering for the top.
On the back is a bowtie badged in diamond plate chrome inserted
tailgate, also in black. The rear bumper is now gone and dual dixie
cup shaped tail lights are on a flat roll pan with black dual
exhaust peeking out from both sides. A nice tight black snap on
covering covers the bed which is made up of wide oak stained planks
with metal ribs between the planks. The inside of this bed is
painted red on the sides. Nice 14-inch shiny wheels are in front
and 15-inch wheels for the rear, the fronts wrapped in 195/70R15's
and in back big 275/60R15's.
Interior
Not grandpa's truck anymore now adorned with plenty of technology
and modernized surface treatments. The likes of which are in the
dash we note a steel gray instrument panel courtesy an S-10 with
modern instruments under glass. A few warning lights and other
gauges are also within this panel. The dash front and top are all
full metal jacket and painted exterior matching red. Vintage AC
hangs below the dash and fronting it is a Grant GT leather covered
rally steering wheel. Floating on black carpeting is a nice wide
two tone vinyl bench with smooth lighter bolsters and tuck and roll
darker tan inserts, complete with red piping to delineate the two
surfaces..Brilliant! More of this material also covers the straight
rust free door. The bench has new seat belts and above is more tan
vinyl covering the headliner and side etc cab vertical surfaces.
Power steering, power brakes, climate control, and an automatic
transmission make this truck an easy driver.
Drivetrain
Under that cowled hood between those sexy front fenders is a 4.3
liter V6 cylinder engine. It has EFI and a 700R4 4-speed automatic
transmission on the back. The rear is a 10 bolt version. Headers
are on for the exhale. All looking nice and clean under these
cowls.
Undercarriage
Now supported by an S-10 frame, clean stamped floor pans and wood
boards for the bed are seen. Slight surface rust covers areas but
they are very limited and unremarkable. Dual Flowmaster clean like
new exhaust system is seen, as well as independent front with coil
sprung suspension, and leaf springs for the back. Power disc brakes
are in front, and power drums are in back.
Drive-Ability
I slipped inside the old truck with its new fashioned interior and
was off like a prom dress to the test track. Here it ran
beautifully with smooth acceleration, quick bias free power
braking, and good handling. All functions were working well for the
test drive.
A little unique, a touch of big rig looks for the front, and all
straight rust free steel is on the exterior with an upgraded
interior. A mod rod truck out of 1937 and looking not nearly that
old, but older in this case is definitely better!
