LINE PAINTVEHICLE HIGHLIGHTS: The advent of the 1955 Chevrolet and
the small-block OHV V-8 offered under its hood is considered by
some to have spurred on the Hot Rod movement among new car buyers.
The 1955 Chevrolet 150 Custom Convertible offered here is highly
upgraded from its origins, built with modern ideas that do not
overwhelm the senses. The tri-five Chevrolet designs have remained
attractive even after 75 years, with 1955 considered to be the
purest by some aficionados. This example is the painstaking result
of a professional build that started with a Real Deal Steel
reproduction body. Under the hood now resides a new GM LS3 crate
engine, which itself superseded the original small-block in terms
of technology, durability and horsepower potential. The engine bay
is detailed with polished accents and smoothed engine bay sheet
metal. Here it is followed by the more modern 4L70E 4-speed
automatic transmission featuring overdrive and an Art Morrison
9-inch differential hosting a Strange center section and 31-spline
super street axles. Built on an Art Morrison TRI 5 GMax frame, the
body is covered in Glasurit 55 line paint in gunmetal and charcoal
tones. Braking comes via Wilwood disc calipers and drilled and
slotted rotors. Once stepping inside, you are treated to an
extensively customized leather interior by JK Automotive Designs
fitted with mauve-tone upholstery, air conditioning, custom gauges
in the dash, an underdash consolette with operations switches,
power steering, power windows and a power convertible top, which
complements the body in a light gray color. Even the trunk has been
refitted for show-quality appearance, while exterior trim is
primarily enhancements on the traditional cues. A set of
intricately cut Forgeline wheels with low-profile tires offers the
final touch of class here. While the car is upgraded, it retains
much of the automotive DNA evident in the original 1955 model
release. With this custom convertible, you can see the U.S.A. in
your Chevrolet, or be seen yourself on the show field.VEHICLE
