Vehicle Description
This 1973 Volkswagen Type 2 Bus is either the coolest thing you've
ever seen, or it's the real-life version of everything you've ever
suspected about the 1960s. And as you look over the full package
you'll see that this "Hippie Van" has also been given the right
added creature comforts so there are no bad trips.
The story that we were originally told was this VW Bus was a
lovingly crafted homage to the Summer of Love that took one couple
a decade to get right. We're not talking about a frame-off kind of
restoration. Instead, it was about colors, materials, and textures
that created the right positive vibes. We don't know what color it
was originally (yellow is probably a good bet,) but at this point
does it even matter? You could spend hours examining this VW like
an archeological artifact, with layer upon layer of authentic
artwork that exactly captures the spirit of the age. You see it in
the peace sign in place of the VW logo in front, the tapestry-like
tie-dyed side murals, and the "Don't Worry Be Happy" on the rear.
The roof is even done in a full American peace flag to show how
these Volkswagens spread love across the country. It's the kind of
style that can draw a crowd - making it perfect for everything from
a concert van to a mobile photo booth business.
There's more fun decor inside with the period-correct fabrics and
designs. The front seats are comfortable high-back buckets that
hide a road-trip ready comfort beneath distinctly mismatched
covers. The flower-power steering wheel wrap and multi-color dash
jazz up the classic hardy VW controls. The rear feels like where
the magic happens. Liberal use of glow-in-the-dark black light
paint gives it a late-1960s to early-70's vibe, But all the good
stuff about the VW bus, including a tapestry-style rear seat that
turns into a bed in case you want to lay down for an interior light
show. Everything has a well-loved style because even when something
was "new" to a hippie it likely lived a full life elsewhere. So
it's just part of the correct vibe. There are nice features that
you might not have expected. For example, you have the classic
wardrobe and storage on the side so that you can hide your
corporate work clothes when you're running short on time to get to
the concert. And the radio is an AMFM/CD unit with Bluetooth, USB,
and modern speakers. So the road trip tunes are far better than
just what comes on the AM radio. This was even upgraded for R134a
air conditioning within the last few years. It's blowing cool and
likely just needs recharge to get back to ice cold.
Under the rear hatch is the classic 1700cc flat-four motor. These
are the heart of the appeal of a VW Bus because they were known for
being hardy and frugal. We're even told this was rebuilt within the
last six years. It makes for a strong runner that you fully control
with the four-speed manual transmission. Add in modern cruising
tires, power brakes, and front discs, and this is a comfortable
cruiser.
We like that this is a singular creation formed from love. And
there are even the right touches of added comforts to let this VW
love you back. In total, the unique elements that are hard to
create are looking authentically terrific, and any body or cosmetic
issues you may want to address are likely the kinds of things that
are known to the other millions of Type 2s sold. So it's the right
mix of true uniqueness while also being common to fix/maintain. So
when you're trying to rekindle a touch of hippie spirit, this
one-of-a-kind is a true magic Bus. Call today!!!
