Vehicle Description
Designed and built with the core Jinba Ittai philosophy, loosely
translated from Japanese to English as "rider and horse as one,"
Mazda's MX-5 Miata completely revolutionized the very idea of
series-production sports cars upon its 1989 Chicago Auto Show
introduction. Delivering the looks and open-air experience of the
many great classic British and Italian sports roadsters with
thoroughly modern drivability, reliability, and all-around
performance, the MX-5 Miata quickly garnered accolades from the
motoring press and rave reviews from buyers. A runaway success, the
MX-5 Miata continues to enjoy production in its fourth generation
today, and according to recent statements by Mazda executives, it
will likely continue in production for years to come. Credit for
the Miata's existence goes to a small band of renegades at the
Mazda design studio in Southern California, who developed the
concept with the 1960s Lotus Elan as their design benchmark.
Featuring surprisingly low pricing relative to the immense value
delivered, the early Miata was powered by a free-revving DOHC
1.6-liter engine with 116 rated horsepower, mated to a
slick-shifting, short-throw 5-speed gearbox. Designed with ideal
50:50 weight distribution and renowned for its fabulous handling
and totally involving character, the first-generation (NA-Series)
Miata remains a revelation to drive, even by today's jaded
standards. Celebrated everywhere it was sold, the Miata enjoyed
particular success in North America, including Automobile
magazine's 1990 "Automobile of the Year" honors and induction to
Car and Driver magazine's "10 Best" list three years straight from
1990 through 1992. With such phenomenal success, it comes as no
surprise that Mazda would devise a special limited-production Miata
for the United States by 1993 - the LE or Limited Edition. Offered
for the United States only, the 1993 Mazda MX-5 Miata LE started as
a top-level, fully loaded "B" package model equipped with power
mirrors, power steering, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, headrest
speakers, cruise control, power windows, and a power radio antenna.
From there, the LE was finished in Brilliant Black over a striking
Deep Red leather-trimmed cockpit including a matching dash,
carpeting, and floor mats with embroidered "Miata" scripts. Chassis
upgrades, including stiffer springs and Bilstein shocks, further
sharpened the LE's handling prowess, along with ultra-lightweight
(8.5 pounds each) "basket weave" BBS alloy wheels, a viscous-type
limited-slip differential and ABS brakes. Retro-style aluminum
interior trim, Mazda's Sensory Sound System, a Red leather top-boot
cover, and full Red tonneau cover topped off this exceptionally
well-equipped Miata. One of just 1,500 examples produced, this
handsomely presented and exceptionally well preserved 1993 Mazda
MX-5 Miata LE is an outstanding collector-grade find, offered with
just 10,696 miles at the time of writing. It displays excellent
black paintwork, a straight, crisp body, and correct LE details
including the BBS light alloy wheels. The striking red leather
interior is in superb condition, with the driver's seat displaying
very light age-appropriate creasing, along with excellent carpets
and plastic trim. Clearly cherished by its owners since new, it
delivers pure motoring joy with its rev-happy 1.6-liter DOHC
powerplant, 5-speed manual gearbox, ideally weighted power
steering, and perfect weight distribution, in concert with the
factory-uprated chassis specification. The engine compartment is
neat and orderly, with factory correct finishes and plating all
intact. Offered in excellent condition throughout, this rare 1993
Mazda MX-5 Miata LE includes the factory-issued books/manuals, both
hard and soft tops, and a racy, LE-specified full tonneau cover.
Also included is a copy of the original window sticker, and
accompanying service records showing regular annual maintenance
regardless of mileage driven. An undeniable modern classic with the
heart and soul of a 1960s sports roadster, it is ready to enjoy and
appreciate to the fullest. Offers welcome and trades considered For
