This 1986 Mercury Capri is pure sports car distinction. It has a
cool RS-style body, a sharp-looking two-tone, a driver-focused
interior, and a fuel-injected 5.0 motor under the hood. It's the
kind of coupe for those who want to drive something powerful and be
memorable doing it.
This Capri has plenty of attitude. The bright Copper Metallic paint
has a deep red-like tone and a nice gloss. The dark tone goes well
with all the black pieces that show off some added sporty style.
You have the dark RS-style hood, a blackout grille, black window
trim, dark tail light louvers, and a black spoiler wrapping around
the rear fastback hatch.
And of course, we love the look of the full black lower section
with the sporty RS-style bumper. Even the upgraded 18-inch wheels
get in on this midnight style, and the extra-grippy tires on these
alloys are a reminder that this is that kind of coupe that is ready
to be driven.
The red interior is quite stylish, especially with the contrasting
white piping. The comfy velour upholstery, power windows, armrest
center console, rear defogger, and pop-out sunroof all give this
the comfy and premium feeling you want from a Mercury. You may
choose to restore the air conditioning or upgrade the stereo for
your ideal classic. But what we like is that this already has a
terrific driver-focused attitude. It's in stock pieces like the
well-contoured bucket seats and full gauges with large speedo and
tach. There are also nice upgrades like the sports steering wheel
and a Hurst shifter.
Under the hood is the correct-style 5.0-liter fuel-injected V8.
It's quite a tidy powerhouse that's ready to show off. It also
makes it easier to see nice upgrades like the MSD Street Fire coil
and Mishimoto aluminum radiator with dual electric fans. The V8
inhales deeper with an upgraded cold air intake, and shorty headers
add power and rumble to the dual exhaust. It's a powerful package,
and you take full control thanks to the five-speed manual
transmission. Power steering, power brakes, front discs, a rear
sway bar, and grippy sport tires complete a terrific classic for
anytime driving.
This was the final year of the Fox body Capri. Since many more
people opted for the Mustang, you get far more rarity while still
getting easy to source components. So this Capri is driving passion
in a distinctive style. That's why this one is so irresistible.
