Vehicle Description
2004 Chevrolet SSR
Why This Vehicle is Special
Back in the '40s and '50s Chevrolet built what was then called
Classic Advance Design trucks. Later, Chevrolet built a new concept
truck with a retro-style design that had V8 power, sports car
handling, and a unique look that has become a classic in its own
right.
We have a silver 2004 Chevrolet SSR here at Skyway Classics that is
very clean and has that unique fold-down hardtop as well as chrome
wheels and fat tires.

Mechanical
Our 2004 SSR has the new version of Chevy's 5.3-liter small-block
V8. This all-aluminum pushrod, GM's first all alloy truck V-8,
pumps out 300 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque to the rear
wheels, by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission.
It all rides on a shortened, reinforced version of the Trailblazer
EXT's hydroformed steel perimeter frame, which is supported by a
firm double A-arm suspension up front and a 5-link rear with a
solid axle.
This chassis and suspension give the SSR cornering capabilities way
beyond those of a typical pickup, turn in is quick, and front plow
mild, body roll is minimal, and feedback from the suspension and
tires first rate.
Stopping the SSR are 4-wheel disc brakes with standard ABS, which
brought it down from 60 in a good average distance of 132 feet.
It all looks factory stock in a clean and detailed engine
compartment with all the correct factory components like air
conditioning, power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, and chrome
wheels and grippy black sidewall performance tires.
Interior
The SSR's exterior is matched by a slick cockpit that's both custom
stylish and Chevy efficient. Brushed SSR trim provide a nice
contrast to the dark dash and doors, while twin two-tone grey power
buckets provide good long distance ride comfort.
The main gauge cluster is super with controls for the AM/FM/CD
audio system are clear and easy to use, as are the simple climate
controls.
It has sculpted bucket seats, a color-matched center console, power
windows, power locks, power seats, power mirrors, cruise control,
key-less entry, ice-cold air conditioning, and stereo radio
system.
Exterior
Our SSR retro machine has a legendary curvy style with modern
streamlining covered with slick factory silver paint that has the
original deep luster.
Chevrolet trucks in the 1950s had a lot of chrome and stainless and
they carried over that retro theme as well machine as there is
plenty of bright work on the grille, door handles, and the running
boards with shiny chrome mag wheels alloys for an extra aggressive
stance.
Super fat front fenders bulge out from a plunging, wedge-shaped
hood. While in the rear, the sporty cargo box is flanked by even
fatter fenders.
But the slickest exterior feature, and the core of the SSR's
appeal, is the power folding hardtop. Just press the switch on the
center console, and the two roof sections retract into a compact
vertical storage bay. And this transforms the SSR from a funky
pickup into an open-air custom cruiser.
Conclusion
Our 2004 Chevrolet SSR that we have here at Skyway Classic that has
a V8 engine and a drop-top hardtop is a classic already today, and
certain to be in the future.
