Vehicle Description
One of only 4,475 LS6's built in 1970. This captivating 1970
Chevrolet Chevelle SS is the ultimate LS6 with its documentation,
color combination, bucket seats, center console, original matching
numbers 454/450HP engine and original matching numbers 4-speed
manual transmission. It has been inspected as authentic by Chevelle
experts Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance and Rick Nelson of
Musclecar Restoration and Design. The 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6
model was the highest powered Chevelle manufactured in the models
lifetime and was the only production GM car to have a higher
horsepower rating than the Corvette. As the NCRS Shipping Data
Report, partial build sheet and trim tag indicate this car was
built in Baltimore, MD with a GM official production date of July

Waldorf, MD. At some point the car made its way to Kentucky. It
used as a bootlegger car hauling moonshine and whiskey which
continued into the 1970's in parts of the South. The car was kept
in a garage for many years and only a few people knew about it
which included a gentleman named Tom Young of Indiana. Tom was a
classic car collector and purchased the car in the early 2000's.
Photos of the car in the garage at time of purchase are included.
Tom collaborated with long-term friend and automotive restorer
Lester Schinnerer of Decatur, IN to perform a complete frame off
restoration. The car was correctly restored to show quality
standards. Photos of the restoration are included. The restoration
was completed in 2008 and was proudly displayed in Tom's classic
car collection. Unfortunately, Tom passed in 2020 and his wife sold
this car in 2022. This car was one of Tom's prized possessions and
has never been exposed until now. Some people refer to it as "The
Holy Grail". It was re-finished in its original Cranberry Red with
black stripes and the paintwork is beautiful. It was outfitted with
all new PPG tinted glass that was stamped with 1970 dates. The car
sits on AO coded 14x7 wheels that are wrapped with Goodyear
Polyglas F70-14 tires. The interior was re-finished in its original
color of black which looks awesome. The special instrumentation
gauges, center console and bucket seats check all the boxes. The
trunk compartment houses the original style trunk mat and matching
spare. The car is powered by the original matching numbers "LS6"
454 V8 that was factory rated with 450HP and 500lbs of torque. The
engine was completely rebuilt and runs excellent. It's equipped
with many correct and date coded parts such as the carburetor,
voltage regulator, starter, plug wires, water pump and radiator.
The engine breathes through a correct replacement dual exhaust
system. The engine is coupled to the original matching numbers M22
4-speed manual transmission. The power is transferred to the
12-Bolt rear end with 3.31 gears. The undercarriage was restored to
new condition and is mirror quality. Finding a 1970 Chevelle SS LS6
in this color combination with these options and the original
drivetrain is not an easy task. This car was recently serviced and
detailed which is documented with an invoice that is included. From
the MS CLASSIC CARS collection.
