Vehicle Description
This 1948 Dodge Power Wagon Type D 1st Series is a frame-off
restoration and high-end custom build. The original Power Wagon was
purchased from a rancher west of Cut Bank, MT. It pairs the
original look with modern drivability conveniences, time-tested
components and show-quality finishes. The 5.9-liter Cummins
12-valve engine - rebuilt by certified Cummins dealer Rocky
Mountain Truck in Great Falls, MT - was bored .20 over with all new
or rebuilt components and updates that include polished valve
covers and intake manifold. The engine will reach 3,000 rpm instead
of the stock 1,900. The engine is cooled by a custom Walker Davis
aluminum radiator. Two easily accessible batteries provide the amps
needed to crank the large diesel engine. A K&N intake system
and 3.5-inch exhaust with a stainless-steel muffler provide airflow
to and from the turbocharged engine. Every component of the power
train has been rebuilt. The transmission is a Getrag 5-speed manual
mated to a 205 New Process transfer case. Power is delivered to the
ground via Dana 70 rear and Dana 60 front axles with 3.54 ratios
for high top-end speeds. Front axles include classic reliable WARN
locking hubs. An electric brake lock provides safe, reliable
emergency stopping. This build has a new transmission PTO to drive
the classic front-mounted Power Wagon with an all-stainless cable
winch and boasts the original Dodge emblem. It has been
custom-designed with a control under the dash for high idle and
winch control. The cab features custom leather seats, Bluetooth
stereo, electric windows utilizing the original classic window
crank and air conditioning using a Vintage Air system. Classic
Bomber 8 Series gauges, carpeted flooring and leather door paneling
are matched with the original steering wheel and shift knob to
blend new comforts with classic Power Wagon features. Rugged
stability is provided using six crossmembers in the frame with
steel filler plates. The frame was sandblasted, coated and painted.
Front easy-ride leaf springs and Kelderman rear air-ride suspension
are paired with off-road Rancho shocks and steering stabilizers for
the Redhead steering gear. The fenders have been undercoated for
protection. A new stainless-steel 19-gallon fuel tank and custom
rear bumper and tow hitch are included in the ground-up build.
Finished in BMW Nardo Blue base coat/clear coat, this Power Wagon
also features classic-looking high-output headlights and marker
lamps with Dodge-marked taillights. Custom copper-coated chrome and
stainless bolts are featured throughout the exterior of the build.
The builder's matching truck was featured in Goodguys Top 10
Builder's Choice awards.
