1958 DESOTO FIREDOME 4DR, OLDER RESTORATION, BEAUTIFUL CAR.
Very nice 1958 DeSoto, restored a few years ago and ready to go and have fun with.
It is not known in detail what was done during the restoration but the paint job, in original color combination is excellent, much better that a factory job, the chrome is also excellent. The only rust I can find is a few bubbles under the paint at the bottom of each quarter panels behind the rear wheels. No holes in the trunk floor.
From what I can see it looks like all chrome has been redone. The pot metal chrome is really nice, even the tail light towers.
The engine runs excellent and has a lot of power so I am guessing something has been done to add a little pickup, a different cam possible?
The transmission shifts great, the front end has been redone, new dual exhaust, the interior was also redone in original design and in non original materials. Everything inside the car was redone, seats, door panels, carpet, headliner, package tray etc.
Redone radiator. We just installed a new fuel tank with a new sending unit, we installed a new water pump and thermostat and had the carburetor professionally rebuilt. And we serviced the car with new oil/filter, checked and filled all fluids, lubed the front end etc, etc. New battery.
While the car was restored not one but two AC units were added, one up front and one in the trunk for the back seat passengers. And aftermarket Power Windows were also added.
The front brakes were upgraded with disc brakes and the master cylinder is a dual cylinder.
The car has the 361 V8, 3 speed Torqueflite pushbutton transmission, PB, PS, tinted glass, AC, PW etc.
I believe everything works, all gauges, speedometer, all lights work, the radio plays and comes in loud and clear, I tried the front AC and it blows cold even!
It would cost more than twice as much as my selling price to redo a car to be as nice as this one, not to mention the headache of getting it painted, upholstered, the chrome redone, mechanical rebuild etc. Skip it all and buy this rare DeSoto for much less.
