Vehicle Description
1986 Jaguar XJSC Convertible
The Jaguar car is world famous for its stylish designs, thrilling
performance, luxurious and comfortable interiors, outstanding
handling and ride, quality engineering, and state-of-the-art
technology. No other automobile manufacturer has been as remarkably
successful at creating both the world's finest luxury sedans, as
well as some of the world's most beloved sports cars. The founder
of Jaguar Cars Ltd. was Sir William Lyons. His goal was to create
world class sports sedans with "grace, space, and pace." Lyons once
said, "The car is the closest thing we will ever create to
something that is alive."
For consignment, a V12 convertible sports luxury, showing up as a
Jaguar XJSC from 1986. This was to be the follow up of Sir William
Lyons' XKE sports car, but have it be the ultimate tourer. It was
very successful, having a 21 year run, and this particular car has
always been garage kept, always babied, and sports a mere 47,787
actual miles. The transmission was rebuilt in 2017 so read onward
for all the goods on this Jag.
Exterior
Like its predecessor the XKE it utilizes thin body styling, keeping
a low profile throughout, and even looking at this car from the
front on 3/4 view you can see shades of the rounded XKE rear
quarter. Long bonnet starting with dual headlights flanking a thin
inward raking grille and ending on the bumper with inset signal
lighting and black crash bumper inserts into a chrome topper. All
sheet metal is bathed in Regent Gray showing no bodywork, just
normal age wear and light corrosion on the lowers. This combination
of straight steel, and beautiful paint as well as other attributes
to come, make this car a true 9 out of 10 on this writer's fun
scale. Due to its XJSC moniker, it has a combined targa/convertible
top that moves easily up and down, retaining a B pillar roll bar
right behind the passengers that the operator can remove 2 roof
panels for a sunroof effect, and stow them in the trunk. Or go full
top down for the true wind in the hair effect.
Interior
Walnut and leather mix to form the luxurious interior. Gray door
panels make use of the leather, along with gray carpeting, and a
small strip of the walnut lacquered to a spit shine. Leather
buckets with power controls all in fine condition make up the
seats. These are sitting on either side of a center console in gray
leather with a black inset shifter window controls and cruise
control along with dueling ash receptacles with corned lids. For
the dash walnut in true lacquered form is the dash front and above
is padded by black vinyl. All knobs, levers and the sound system
are inset into the walnut. A black instrument cluster is in the
growler badged leather wrapped steering wheel. Gray Wilton
carpeting, in lightly soiled condition floods the floors and is
also in back in lieu of the rear seat, which is carpeted storage
and receives the downed top.
Drivetrain
Under the long bonnet, is revealed the V12 power plant and it is a
work of art. Fuel injected 5.3 liters of High Efficiency running.
This 295hp aluminum V12 produces incredible low end torque. Its
60-degree offset, and 30-degree firing rotation cause the driver to
make sure after turning the key the engine is actually running! The
block has a 7 bearing double honed hardened cast iron crankshaft,
steel cylinder sleeves chain driven cams, and pushes power to a GM
TH400 automatic transmission. This transmission was rebuilt in 2017
and now effectively and efficiently sends power to the 3.54 geared
rear axle.
Undercarriage
With all structurally sound undercarriage panels, rockers and
fittings this shows just road dirt and slight patina with age.
Independent coil spring suspension is also on all 4 corners, as are
power disc brakes. Factory style dual exhaust is on for the
exhale.
Drive-Ability
This car fired right up, and ran beautifully, with the as described
idle that you really have to check to see if it is indeed running.
All functions were awesome and it's a treat for me to get to drive
this 3 season enjoyable skate. Cracking good showI say!
Essentially a car in the condition as close to when it left the
factory as one can get. Interior is all original, the paint is
light aged but still gorgeous and the engine bay is truly tightly
buttoned up. Lovely mate! You can drive the bloody thing like you
stole it, and an even bigger grin will appear. Spit Spot!
