Vehicle Description
1967 Ford Galaxie 500
Reading the 1967 Ford Galaxie magazine ads, Ford did everything in
their power to push the point of strength and durability, as well
as quiet ride. They jumped the Galaxie 500 off the Ski Jump in Lake
Placid. They did a steeple chase run with the car. Anything they
could to prove the point of solid construction. Well constructed,
yes, but quietly the car was making the point that the engine was
large enough not only to move the car smoothly, but really fast.
Looks like a family car, performs like a muscle car, although the
term muscle car was in its infancy..but they were working on
it.
This beautiful Galaxie 500, has been redone with not only strength
and durability in mind, but also a big emphasis on beauty. Super
straight lines, great gaps, all steel, grayed out front brite-work
and tinted glass, a beautiful example of a Ford classic that you
can literally get in, turn the key and start the party. Meet George
Jetson...
Exterior
Midnight Blue adorns the exterior, and one has to look very hard to
find a few bubbles forming behind the paint on the lower end and
above the wheel wells, but it's slight. The britework in front and
in back with bumpers and grille as well as trim work have all
blackened to a dark charcoal hue. The bumpers remain straight and
very clean, as is the front grille, and stacked front headlight
bezels. Shiny window surrounds have new rubber trim inserted and
are in very nice condition all framing tinted glass. The edge trim
shows some patina, but is otherwise unremarkable. A gray/white
stripe runs between the wheel wells of the car just above the
rockers. All glass is clean and scratch free. 17-inch impressive 5
spoke Ridler wheels are wrapped in 245/45/ZR17 black-wall tires
from the 21st week of 2013. Rectangular tail lights are on the back
but showing the future of the Galaxy design.
Interior
Going from the ground up, new blue carpet covers all floor
surfaces. The dark blue vinyl tuck and roll insert bucket seats in
front are showing nicely with no tears or rips, and have maintained
their shape. Bolsters are in a contrasting light blue. The rear
bench appears virtually new, and matches the front buckets with
pattern and texture. A wonderful center console, in lighter blue
and chromed plastic and metal shows light wear, but is in good
condition and sports a T handle shifter. A new dash has been
installed, and padding on top is near perfect, having no sun damage
or cracks. The door panels appear original and some of the chromed
plastic trim on the panels has become delaminated, however panels
are in good condition. A new headliner tops the interior off.
INCLUDED in this sale is a Vintage AC kit for the new owner to
install! An integrated push button AM radio within the dash and
underneath is an AM/FM/CD radio to belt out the tunes.
Drivetrain
A 460ci V8 is topped by a 4-barrel Edelbrock carburetor and bolted
to a 3-speed automatic C6 transmission that shifts smooth as silk.
On the back is a Ford 9 inch rear axle with 2.75 gears within.
Overall, the engine bay is very clean and fully restored to look
like it just left the factory floor. All new wiring, hoses,
aluminum radiator, non corroded or rusted master cylinder and cast
aluminum valve coverings and an open oval air cleaner covering,
complete the snapshot of the bay.
Undercarriage
Looking underneath, a virtually rust free, (including surface
rust), environment can be seen. Looking like a fresh light spray of
undercoating was recently applied to the rear section of the car as
you can see the overspray markings, but it's all good as to any
rust situation. The frame is very stable as is the junction of the
body and the frame. Stamped floor pans have patna but are rust
free. Also, a newly installed Flowmaster dual exhaust system is
noted. Independent coil springs for the front, and a 4 link with
coil springs on back provides the ride, and power disc brakes are
upfront, and power drums on back.
Drive-Ability
What can I say, lots of POWER when one presses the GO pedal ever so
slightly! It might be the 460 cubes and the 4bbl working in unison
albeit very smoothly. Bias free panic stopping, smooth steering,
and all is working nicely.
An overall nice presentation, good running, smooth shifting, turn
key '67 ready for more fun miles, right here at Classic Auto Mall.
Solid! Cue the jazzy music and this car will not fold up into a
briefcase when you enter Spacely Sprockets, however it will do a
great job of adding bling to your driveway!
