Vehicle Description
1993 Ford Mustang LX Convertible
Why is it called the "Fox" platform? I am unable to find a sure
reason why Ford identified this chassis as "Fox". Some people say
that it had something to do with VW's "Rabbit", but I can't confirm
that. I assume the Fox name has something to do with how Ford
downsized their vehicles. Ford's vehicles went from being big like
a cow to small and nimble like a Fox.
Here we go, a Foxbody convertible 5.0 liter Camaro eater right out
of 1993. A very clean,80,757 title verified original mile,
well-kept car, bathed in a rarecolor as only 132 LX convertibles
were built in this striking Royal Blue, sweet 16" pony wheels right
from the factory, and plenty of power. If you are not excited yet,
read on and fasten your seatbelt!
Exterior
A respray of the factory Royal Blue bathes this car and is in very
nice condition with no rust, and is wrapped up with body colored
matching trim, all also very nice. Color coordinated bumpers sport
a wide midsection in body matching Royal Blue trim that encircles
the car. As we move on let's stop at the beautiful white canvas
convertible top, complete with glass rear window, also in nearly
perfect condition. It moves up and down flawlessly, and when down
you get to enjoy the sun beaming on your face, and the wind in your
hair. 16-inch pony wheels are on all 4 corners, and the only chrome
seen is in the form of the 5.0 badge as well as the LX badge...very
tasty.
Interior
A fine mix of leather and vinyl wrapped in Oxford White, and
totally blemish free, cover the power articulating sport front
buckets and rear bench. Padding is excellent and these seats tend
to grab you upon entering. All seating sports nicely preserved
white piping on the borders. The white tonneau cover hides the
white convertible top, which is like new, when in the down
position, with the cover makes it matchy matchy with the interior.
Awesome dark gray seatbelts keep you secure, and a gray console
races past the buckets toward the dash. This houses the black
shifter, and then makes its way upward making space for the A/C,
and optional AM/FM/CD sound system which was a $650 option when
new. The dash is black 90's square design, and the gauge cluster is
very clean, with odometer showing 80,757 verified original miles.
Fronting the dash is an air bagged steering wheel with cruise
control buttons. In their white clad vinyl and gray carpeted glory,
door panels are nearly showroom, and house the power windows, locks
and sport mirror controls. It's tempting to dig my bare feet in the
wonderfully preserved gray thick pile carpet with great Mustang
embroidered floor mats, mm mmmmm good!
Drivetrain
Be prepared to have your breath taken away when flipping the hood,
as you'll be met with that stunning 5.0 liter V8, complete with
factory correct intake manifold andair intake, electronic fuel
injection, distributor boot and coil cover. Backing up this potent
5.0 is a 4-speed automatic AOD transmission which pushes power back
to an 8.8 inch 2.73 TracLoc rear axle.
Undercarriage
A virtual candy land of black painted steel frame and suspension,
with some blue factory over sprayed tubs and rockers. This
undercarriage looks clean with no surface rust save for the
driveshaft which is typical. The front suspension is independent
coil spring in front and a 4 link with coil springs is on the rear.
Power disc brakes are on the front, and power drums on the rear to
bring this pony to a whoa. All clean and green on the factory
header and Flowmaster muffler equipped exhaust and mechanicals
underneath.
Drive-Ability
I couldn't wait to get into this one, as a pristine Fox body 5
Liter has a particular attraction to any car guy, but I get to
drive it. It did not disappoint with a quick lighted fire, and
smooth idle, we were off after slipping the shifter into gear.
Plenty of power, great handling, and I felt like a million bucks
behind this wheel. I had to remind myself I was in a car with
fairly low mileage and straight out of 1993. All functions, even
the sometimes troublesome rear power windows were functional, but
we did notice the air conditioningwas blowing warm.
If you are in the market for some 1993 eye candy in the form of a
very nicely preserved Fox body 5.0 liter convertible, look no
further, as this one is a beauty. It is hard to find any real
discernible faults on this classic and being 1 of 132 built doesn't
hurt either. Stock Mustangs of this era are becoming a rarity so
hurry into our Hallowed Halls and slip into this nimble fox.
