Vehicle Description
1968 Chevrolet C10 Pickup
The Chevrolet C10 designation can be confusing at times, with the
C-10, C-20, C-30, and then the line of K designations to throw in
as well. The difference between C & K is C is 2-wheel drive, and K
is 4-wheel drive. The numerical designation denotes weight maximum.
10 is 1/2 ton, 20 is 3/4 ton, and 30 is 1 ton.
For consignment a C10, (1/2 ton), step side pickup truck, with some
liberties taken in the form of straying from the
original...slightly. At first glace all appears normal with this
frame off restored hauler right out of 1968 until we breathe in the
added extended cab, powerful consignor-stated 400ci V8, late model
bed, and cushy interior. We're in hay hauler heaven, but you
wouldn't use this to haul anything but ass, now would you?
ExteriorExcellent straight panels, good gapping, a custom grafted
in extended cab, a later model step side bed in the back and
extending around to the rear roll pan, one can have access to the
bed from all points around this truck. All this bathed in
eye-catching vanilla cream with only a few minor faults and flaws
that are barely noteworthy. Perfectly placed rubber gripping has
been put on these bed steps to secure your footing along with
smooth toppers along the sides of the bed. In the front of the
truck the grille has been modified with vanilla body matching
inserts and beautifully polished stainless running between the
headlights. A note to the bed which has beautiful oak boards with
chrome divider strips which even continue onto the tailgate. It's
so clean that if it ever carried anything since the restoration, it
was definitely covered to do so as it presents immaculate! The
taillights have morphed into tall vertical odalisque spears and
keep up the clean line while flanking the tailgate. Snazzy chrome
18" American Racing wheels are all around and shine over the white
on the corners. All chrome is in very good condition on this
restored truck.
Interior
Swinging open the door and we see a mixture of white steel and
black plastic covering the doors. The steel is the upper and lower
of the door with the plastic panel centrally located and housing
the door release and armrest and a Sheridan pattern to break things
up a little. A heavily padded black rimmed 3 spoke steering wheel
fronts the black padded dashboard. The dash is all C10 and has
upgraded Classic Instruments black faced gauges to monitor engine
vitals along with the heater and AC slides and a white steel
glovebox door. A Clarion AM/FM/CD player has been mounted in the
custom carpeted center console and also has a small storage area,
twin cup holders and the controller for the air ride suspension.
Modern gray cloth fully reclining high back bucket seats flank a
perfectly fit late model console with integral side speakers. In
the extended cab area we notice a parcel shelf finished in seat
matching upholstery which doubles as small storage areas. All of
this floats in a sea of gray Berber carpeting. A gray headliner
hangs above and frames the pop up tinted sunroof nicely.
Drivetrain
A tastefully blinged pro built consignor stated 400ci V8 engine is
shoehorned into a beautifully restored engine bay. It is topped
with tuned port injection and is backed by a 4-speed automatic
700r4 transmission. A 12-bolt brings up the rear and puts power out
to the Nitto rubber.
Undercarriage
One has to love the extra effort these restorers put in when they
take the frame off of the truck, then do the restoration.
Absolutely clean and rust-free underneath with a red paintedframe
highlighting the vanilla white floors and rockers. With independent
air bag suspension up front and a swing arm and air bags on the
back. Power disc brakes are all around as well and for the exhale,
headers feed down to dual exhaust with stainless steel
mufflers.
Drive-Ability
Upon startup you are met with a snarl in the form of that 400
lighting and making some serious horses. Taking it through the
paces we quickly realized this truck is not fooling around, and
with those Nitto tires, it has good cornering. Great acceleration,
and an overall smooth runner and shifter. Oh, we dared not put
anything in the bed!
An obvious labor of love in the restoration of this truck, with its
great paint, and sexy unmarred bed andretro interior, it can give
you a kick in the seat of your pants to boot. A perfectvanilla
cream color with the undercarriage being just as nice as the
topside and the cherry on top is the adjustable air ride
suspension, stop by and see if you will fall in love like we did.
1968 like it was yesterday, with a little mix of today for good
measure....eat it up!
