Vehicle Description
1994 Ford Mustang GT
What can be said about the Ford Mustang that already hasn't been.
The original Mustang was based on the Ford Falcon and was marketed
more as a secretary's car then a performance pony. It's surely been
noted that the Mustang, through its various generations and
continuous production, is known worldwide simply by its running
horse. We certainly cannot forget the versions of the Mustang that
Carrol Shelby was cranking out, nor can we forget the racing
history in NHRA, Trans AM and other nefarious late night street
races. Through its many generations, body styles, internal platform
"code names", and special editions the Mustang has persevered.
Thanks to this, today anyone with a little gumption and some
mechanical knowledge can personalize their Mustang any way they
like thanks to huge aftermarket support.
For consignment, a coupe version with a 5.0 liter engine, black
exterior, a black interior and a 5-speed manual transmission. This
one runs and drives nicely but is in need of some TLC on multiple
fronts, has a new rack and pinion, a new clutch, and some top end
engine work, along with some new parts sprinkled in for good
measure.
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by
the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws
to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public
highways in your area.*
Exterior
Bathed in an amateur application of black paint, let's call it a
good 20 footer, and keeping some of the iconic styling cues seen
throughout the models history are present, one of those being the
hockey stick cove. All panels fit well with good gaps, no dents,
and minimal scratching. Neoprene body-colored bumpers are at the
front and rear of this pony and look just fab. Fog lights, standard
on a GT, are present and recessed into the bottom of the front
bumper. The factory hood has been replaced with a 1995 Cobra R
style hood in fiberglass for that extra muscular look. A styling
change on the taillights is seen with horizontal bars in black with
a smoked finish, flush with the rear of the body and stainless
exhaust tips protruding from below. A bulbous hardtop covers the
passengers and is surrounded by black trimmed lightly smoked glass.
Yellow highlighting is sprinkled throughout the body and we note
the addition of a rear window visor. Highly polished chrome 5 spoke
Bullitt style wheels from American Muscle are on and are wrapped in
275/40ZR17 rubber up front and steamroller sized 315/35ZR17 rubber
in the rear.
Interior
A swing of the door shows us upgraded black leather front bucket
seats with some yellow insert highlighting and heavy bolsters and
rear seats in factory black leather that show minimal usage.
Another iconic design cue is the dual swooped dash which presents
in black and melts into a center console with another rounded
bottom curved line. Black carpet covers all the floors. The iconic
curves continue on the door panels in black, with the swoops
housing all the power toggles for windows, locks and mirrors. All
original instruments and all clean as well showing the driver all
necessary engine functions. A centrally located HVAC control keeps
the occupants comfortable year round and an aftermarket AM/FM/CD
player keeps the audiophile in us sated. Also, in the trunk is an
aftermarket amp and speaker box.
Drivetrain
Lifting the fiberglass Cobra R style hood, we are met with a
slightly patinaed and dusty engine bay and 5.0 Liter V8 with some
yellow dress up for the valve covers and high energy ignition
wires. This mill has EFI and makes an impressive 215hp, although
with the aforementioned top end work and tubular GT-40 intake
manifold that number has surely climbed a bit. On the back is a
Tremec T5 5-speed manual transmission with a new clutch to help
keep cruising rpms low. Way in the rear is a Ford 8.8" axle
containing a 3.08 TracLoc gearset.
Undercarriage
Seen underneath is the unrestored undercarriage with independent
coil springs upfront, and a 4 link with coil springs on the rear.
We note that the left tailpipe has started to rub through the
stamped steel rear upper control arm. Some surface rust has made an
appearance on the unibody and flooring but the base of both of the
shock towers have heavy invasive rust that has even spread to the
left front unibody rail. Power disc brakes are all around. Surface
rusted headers work their way down from the mill and meet up with a
dual exhaust withFlowmaster mufflers that puts a throaty sound out
the back through stainless tips which peek out the bottom. We note
the removal of the catalytic converters from the exhaust system and
a new rack and pinion has been installed for the steering.
Drive-Ability
It's always a pleasure to have an unexpected warm spell in November
so I took advantage of it and drove with the windows down. The 5.0
fired right up with the turn of the key and I was off to the test
track. Putting this car through paces at the Classic Auto Mall test
track was a hoot and I love ripping through thecorners, windows down
and the tune of a V8 in my ears. A few frowns crept up during my
drive, I noticed that both the power windows and locks were
inoperable, the AC didn't blow cold and there were some notable
exhaust leaks.
A menacing black horse riding across the desert, the black leather
interior blending into the sun-drenched scenery of mesas and
saguaro cacti. The engine runs very nicely, putting out smooth
power through the 5-speed manual to the rear wheels. A wild horse
that you tame with your braking foot, and let run loose with your
right ostrich skin boot!
