Vehicle Description
2010 Harley Davidson SoftailCustom
The Harley-Davidson Softail was designed in the early 1980s. It all
began when Harley-Davidson acquired a motorcycle concept designed
by mechanical engineer Bill Davis. Davis had been experimenting
with the design of hidden rear shock absorbers on a large framed
motorcycle with a V-twin engine. In 1982, Davis sold his design
patents to Harley-Davidson. He would then work alongside
Harley-Davidson engineers to perfect the design. Harley-Davidson
released the FXWG Wide Glide in 1980. This model was successful, as
were most models in the FX family. When designing the first
Softail, Harley-Davidson used the Wide Glide as inspiration, due to
its recent success. The original H-D hardtail lacked rear
suspension, which made long drives uncomfortable. In the
Harley-Davidson Buyer's Guide 1984-2011, by Peter Gantriis and Dain
Gingerelli, it states that during this time, it was common for
builders to customize motorcycles. Gantriis and Gingerelli further
explain that, for this reason, many aftermarket companies tried to
solve the rear suspension issue by installing traditional
"plunger"-style suspension systems.
For consignment, a 2 owner, 14,490 actual mile bike that not only
has the "look" thanks to tons of extra chrome, but also can back it
up with a big bore kit installed in the V-twin powerplant. This
bike shows beautifully thanks to the efforts of the consignor,
always well taken care of and obviously in a climate-controlled
garage.
Exterior
This 2010 Softail is draped in all black which is offset perfectly
by the massive amount of added chrome accessories. From stem to
stern it's nothing but good looks with chrome wire spokes for the
front wheel and a saw blade style aluminum wheel on the back, mostly
obscured by the add-on black leather saddle bags. Some white
pinstriping wraps around the sides of the fuel tank and gives the
perfect backdrop for the eagle in motion Harley Davidson painted
logoing. Chromed telescoping forks up front and a coil over rear
suspension provide the smooth ride as does the black leather shod
seat with room for 2, and a sissy bar on the back keeps your woman
right where she belongs. Disc brakes are on front and rear. A small
round chrome trimmed gauge pod, with indigo backlighting, keeps the
rider aware of all vitals and looks snappy while doing so.
Drivetrain
1585cc's for this Softail version with a big bore kit thatcost our
consignor a princely sum of $5,000 and is fed by EFI. A 6-speed
manual transmission sends power to the rear tire via a belt drive
set up. Chrome headers and piping add to the bling factory and
create a mechanical melody for all to hear.
Ride-Ability
An great ride to say the least, it fired right up and off to the
test track where it was realized I can still manage to ride on 2
wheels. Good acceleration, excellent braking and precise handling
make for one cool ride...even I managed to look cool while on my
ride.
Here is your opportunity to get onto a turn key bike for a great
price. All the hard work is done, just flip the switch and go, as
long as the belt don't break
