Vehicle Description
1957 Chevrolet 3200 Pickup
The Chevrolet Task Force was Chevrolet's successor to the Advance
Design series. The Task Force Series ran from late 1955, (second
series), through 1959. At GMC dealers, it was called the Blue Chip
Series. Designed by Ned Jordan, Chevrolet's Task Force pickups
blurred the line between passenger cars and trucks. They were more
comfortable and roomier than previous Chevy trucks, and they
offered stylish features like a wraparound windshield, hooded
headlights, and an egg-crate grille.
For consignment, a nicely buttoned up 3200 Pickup from Chevrolet
and right out of 1957. A few changes in the powertrain, some
convenience options added to the interior, and a dark blue hue with
pinstriping covering it. Appearing from the side view as a mild
custom with the perfect old skool kewl rake, but retaining all the
factory body lines. A customized truck, with decent paint and the
ability to rip it up a bit and haul some stuff or just some
ass!
Exterior
Presenting nicely in a dark blue paint, but not without a few
inclusions, that bathes the all steel body of this older build. A
blue roof with a matching visor sets off the lightly smoked glass
all around and gives the perfect 1950's look. Hooded headlights sit
within highly polished chrome bezels and flank either side of the
chrome dressed mouthlike grille and clean bumper below. All
trimmings of chrome have been retained and some flourish pink and
white pinstriping is on for good measure. A bulbous hood also
sports the pink and white flourish pinstripes as well as a series
of louvers punched into the hood as well as the proud Bowtie and V
emblem up front. We also note the addition of crossedflags and 409
emblems down low on each front fender togive you a clue of what
lurks under the hood. For the back of the truck, it's all bed in
styleside form with the obligatory tight black tonneau stretched
overtop. Blonde oak stained boards make up the bed floor and are
separated by stainless ribbing. More of the pinstriping surrounds
the Chevrolet embossed tailgate and a blingychrome bumper and twin
chrome turndown tailpipes are below. 15-inch American Racing wheels
are all around with staggered width radial rubber.
Interior
A complete redux with white and blue steel with exterior matching
pinstriping for the door panels with shiny handles and chrome power
window switches. Inside a refreshed bench in clean gray vinyl with
a broad stitched tuck and roll pattern and smooth side bolsters
stretches from door to door providing room for 3. This seat is very
clean and floats in an ocean of black carpeting with a chrome arm
and white ball topped Hurst shifter reaching toward the driver's
right hand. Fronting this is an original laid out dash in full
metal jacket dark blue with pink pinstriping and all the original
knobs and pulls, but with the added bonus of an under dash
heater/AC panel. The original steering column has a Sun Supertach
II with a late model 4 spoke black vinyl rimmed wheel is seen.
Above is a custom headliner in black with a small square pattern in
broadcloth.
Drivetrain
A flip of the big bulbous hood and floating in the center of a
cavernous black engine bay is a blinged out 409ci V8 with a
4-barrel carburetor and aluminum intake manifold on top. A Muncie
M20 transmission is on back and it is a 4-speed manual which pushes
power rearward to the rear tires via a 3.36 geared rear axle.
Chrome valve covers are on and topping things off is a dark blue
painted batwing style air cleaner assembly. Keeping it all cool is
an aluminum radiator with supple like new hoses.
Undercarriage
A strong rust free frame gives support to all the underside
components. Leaf springs all around provide the ride in the rear
with a drop axle up front. We note solid metal for the cab corners
and underside of the cab steps. Headers tie into dual exhaust
sending spent fossils through Turbo style mufflers before exiting
with turn downs under the rear bumper. Drum brakes on all 4 corners
provide the Whooah factor.
Drive-Ability
This truck roared to a start and accelerated like it was on fire to
the test track and on it as well. It handled beautifully and came
to a quick bias free stop even with the manual drum brakes. The
recovered seat is almost heavenly, and the gauges galore always
want to draw your eyes to the dash.
A nice build showing some age in areas but nothing horrible. A
badass hotrod era engine, creature comforts, and a comfy interior.
A neat looker and a hot cooker, we give you the 1957 Chevrolet 3200
pickup, ready to haul your car show gear or ass!
