Vehicle Description
1986 Dodge D250 Pickup
The D/W series is a line of pickup trucks that was sold by Dodge
from October 1960 to September 30, 1993. The same basic design was
retained until the October 1993 introduction of a completely
redesigned Ram. The D/W series shared its AD platform with the
Dodge Ramcharger/Plymouth Trail Duster twins. 4x2 models were
designated D, while 4x4 models were designated W.
For consignment, a 1986 version of the Ram White Hat pickup in the
form of a D250. This one shows some rust on various panels, nifty
side pipes, a bed covering and a Ram ram hood ornament. Our
consignor states the engine was rebuilt at 100K mile marker and now
has 36K clocked on it. Medium Tan Metallic paint, and a mixed
broadcloth and vinyl interior. Yup! Here we go. Cue the dancing
noodle!
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by
the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws
to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public
highways in your area.*
Exterior
Starting with the iconic Dodge aluminum grille with its egg crate
center, single headlight on either side and bumper below sporting
some fog lighting mounted on either side. Areas of invasive rust
are seen on the Metallic Tan paint especially around wheel wells,
front quarter panels on the post wheel well lowers, and on back
wheel wells. The paint is decent and there is a black vinyl bed
covering. This hides a plastic covered bed liner which is showing
as dirty however with no cracks. The paint holds its shine, and
chromeon the back needs some restoration as it's showing rust and
may have been hit on the drivers side causing a sag. Correct
badging and raised white letter tires are wrapping gray steel 8
bolt wheels on all corners. Note, on the rockers are chromed side
pipes
Interior
All factory design with Metallic Tan framing and tan stitched faux
leather vinyl. Some dirt and wear are showing as well, and inside a
light tan vinyl bolstered long bench with broadcloth inserts
showing soiling is seen. Fronting this bench is a factory dash in
tan surrounds and black square and rectangle inserts housing gauges
and climate controls. There is a peppering of aftermarket gauges on
the steering column and attached to the dash top hanging down
within view of the driver. On the central hump now resides a custom
made console CB radio and Cd player. The wood box is showing some
wear. Textured rubber covers the floors and some nifty Dodge badged
and triangle adorned floor mats are all in. The headliner is steel
painted Metallic Tan, and there is a full rear glass in the back of
the cab.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 318ci V8 that has an Edlebrick intake and 4
barrel carburetor and an A727 Torqueflite 3 speed automatic
transmission on back. A 9.25 rear axle is on and headers feed the
shiny side pipes.
Undercarriage
Fairly clean and mostly unremarkable on the rust front, save for a
structural steel dual bar that runs just in front of the rear
bumper and that is showing invasive rust and some bending. Rockers
are clean, and independent coil springs are reserved for the fins,
and leaf springs for the rear. Power disc braking is on front, and
power drums for the back.
Drive-Ability
The old Dodge right up and ran like a champ in the test track. The
reverse lights do not light, the factory radio does not belt out
tunes, and the aftermarket radio takes a bit to come on, but midway
through my test drive it began to belt out my favorite Andy
Williams tunes.
Some dents and dings, some surface rust, and indeed some invasive
rust which should be remediated fairly easily, this classic D
series truck is a 2 wheel drive version.
