Vehicle Description
1993 Mazda Miata Convertible
Inspired by classic British roadsters such as the MG, MGB, and
Triumph Spitfire, but engineered to be as reliable as a Toyota
Corolla, the original Miata took the market by storm when it
debuted in 1989 for the 1990 model year. The Miata is a small
roadster from Mazda, its name is derived from the Old German word
miete meaning 'reward'. 2- Miata is an African name meaning "first
born" or "first lady" depending on the tribe you are from.
A third year roadster for consignment in good overall condition.
This car has a fresh repaint, new carpet and upholstery, new
factory wheels, a recent tune up, and some interior panels were
redone to keep the inside looking like new. Small car with powerful
engine, CHECK! Right color with convertible top, CHECK! Sporty
interior with stick shifter, CHECK! Well optioned, CHECK! Turn the
key and drive away with a smile on your face, CHECK...IT OUT!
Exterior
A recent respray in maroon to the tune of $5,000 shows in good
condition drapes this British inspired sports car. A like new black
canvas convertible top with a clear plastic rear window keeps
Mother Nature at bay during inclement weather. Rounded bumpers,
steel rockers, and all the bulbous design is all bathed in maroon
with only the door handles left to shine. There are few faults
throughout but all is looking good. Even the factory wheels present
as new, because they are, and are wrapped with nearly new 195/50R15
blackwall rubber. Pop up hidden headlights keep the front of the
car nicely aero smooth and integrated rounded tail lights wrap
around the rear quarters. Small but mighty with some slipstream
design added in.
Interior
Opening the top reveals a nice new charcoal black vinyl high back
dual bucket interior passenger compartment. Everything is within
arm's reach here, showing its original dash, leather wrapped and
aftermarket covered steering wheel which turns power assisted
steering, and an aftermarket AM/FM/CD stereo by Pioneer occupies
the slot where the original once lived. New black carpet covers the
floors and of course is in excellent condition. A carpeted dash
topper gives some extra protection from the harmful UV rays and we
note the interior side panels have recently been repainted for that
factory fresh look. Let's go for a quick ride on a curved back
uninhabited road!
Drivetrain
A 1.8 liter 4-cylinder twin cam engine is fed by EFI and on the
back is attached to a 5-speed manual transmission, and all run very
smoothly. 4.10 gears are powering the rear axle. Condition shows
nicely, just a bit of corrosion on the cast pieces on this recently
tuned up mill.
Undercarriage
Up on our lift we note some slight surface rust but certainly no
invasive rust and all structurally sound unibody construction well
sorted and sported out. Rear wheel drive with independent coil
springs all over and power discs on all 4 corners. Nice floor pans
and rockers and no real oil leaks to speak of so the garage floor
will remain clean. Our consignor notes that the front tie rod ends
were recently replaced.
Drive-Ability
Slipping inside I had shades of doing the same in my TR-6. Although
this car assured me it was going to start! On our test track the
car accelerated with ease, exhibited bias free braking and
displayed handling on par with cars 4 times its cost. A wonderful
drive was had with the wind in what's left of my thinning hair with
all functions operational.
As the ad slogan goes ZOOM! ZOOM! ZOOM!, and this car was built
before the writer of that campaign was born. All clean in maroon
and looking like the original that drove out of the showroom in
1993.
