Vehicle Description
2005 Mercedes-Benz SLK350 Roadster
In 1886 Karl Benz introduced the very first automobile named the
Benz Patent Motor Car. The Benz car sported three-wheels and
weighed about 200 lbs. The single-cylinder four-stroke engine
produced 2/3 hp at 250 rpm and is considered by most to be the
world's first car. A few months later Gottlieb Daimler unveiled a
four-wheeled vehicle. While each of these accomplishments are grand
on their own, little did either man realize that they would later
form one of the most prestigious, powerful and timeless automotive
powerhouses in the world. The first Mercedes was introduced in
1900, shortly after the death ofDaimler and four years after the
debut of the Benz Patent Motor Car. Emil Jellinek, who commissioned
a new sports car as one of Daimler'sprimary distributors, named it
after his daughter.
From the Autobahn to Morgantahn, (sic/"Dutchey"), and within the
massive confines of the Classic Auto Mall is this 2005 version of
the SLK350 Mercedes Benz sports car. A 3.5 Liter DOHC V6, 7-speed
Touch Shift transmission, a retractable hardtop, a spiced up AMG
rear wing, a clean Carfax, and the original window sticker, we are
now feasting our eyes at one of the sleekest designs to ever grace
the automotive food chain. Jeeves, wo ist mein
Dribbling-Ltzchen?
Exterior
Bathed in black with a black fiberglass retractable hardtop, we
have a sports car meets open cockpit roadster. With its ultra sleek
bulbous flirting with aerodynamic lines, and all integrated
headlamps, tail lamps, bumpers and grille, the air around you will
never see you coming. Especially thrilling is the Formula One front
center grille nose complete with tri-pointed star paying homage to
the racing heritage that helped in its design and performance. This
car has been well cared for but showing some with some scuffs and
scrapes in the neoprene on the exterior surfaces. We see fog lights
and halogen style headlights with polycarbonate lenses on front
with fog lights integrated into the neoprene bumper below self
cleansingtail lights back, and when on at night, this car comes up
on you and is menacing, so just get out of its way and it will be
ahead in no time. With the touch of a button the hardtop disappears
into the rear of the body and this choreographed dance is a sight
to behold. Standard issue Mercedes-Benz 17-inch multi-spoke black
center alloy wheels wrapped in nearly new Michelen rubber and this
car handles like a cat on carpet.
Interior
With a delicate melding of gray and black leather, a racing
inspired design comes to form on the inside. A console mounted
shifter with the "Touch Shift" manual mode available, telescoping
and tilt steering wheel, cruise control, power windows, and dual
integrated roll bars, are among just the plethora of options added
on for performance and convenience. Sexy round deep-set analog
gauges are bordered by an electronic odometer which is showing
88,314 original miles. The factory AM/FM stereo with navigation
graces the center of the dash and hovers above a slew of rocker
switches for the seat heaters and tow mode as well as other
functions all surrounded by a black inlay. Our consignor notes that
he removed the 6-CD changer from the glovebox so the box can
actually be used, but it is included with the purchase. Black
carpet with very clean Mercedes-Benzfloor mats floats the interior
with the twin bucket seats showing just the right amount of folding
and age wear to the very light gray leather.
Drivetrain
3.5 Liters of DOHC V6 is electronically fuel injected and gives you
268 horses at your right foot. This technologicalmarvel lurks under
the gray and black plastic engine covers, all residing within the
very clean bay. It has a 7-speed Touch Shift automatic on the
backwhich sends power to the 3.27 geared rear axle that puts the
power to the asphalt.
Undercarriage
No rust, straight, structurally sound steel and plenty of ground
effects panels are noted. A fully independent sport suspension is
on with MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link and coil spring
arrangement in the rear. Power disc brakes with ABS and braking
assist brings this "Sport Licht" to a halt. Last but not least a
speed sensitive power assisted rack and pinion steering allows you
to feel the road at numerous levels of speed. The factory dual
stainless steel exhaust system is on for the exhale and is looking
fab.
Drive-Ability
High quality, high performance is to be expected and it was
delivered on my test drive of this little German marvel. Great
acceleration, speed sensitive handling, and steering, and plenty of
brake stopping power. Best of all this car can cruise comfortably
all day and not even break a sweat. The fiberglass retractable
hardtop makes this car very drivable in any weather conditions.
Nice driver.
Beautiful timeless design, bulbous small maneuverable German sports
car lines and ultra inner adjustability to suit any frame of
person, this is a very nice car. You'll quickly realize when
looking at this car there are no more links in the chain to climb
because you are at the very top!
