Vehicle Description
1979 Chevrolet Silverado K10
The model year 1960 brought the Chevrolet pickup into the modern
era with its C/K series lineup. The "C" designation identified
two-wheel-drive pickups, and the "K" identified 4X4s. The most
common pickup was the C10, a half-ton truck with a 6.5- or 8-foot
cargo box. The C/K series trucks remained essentially the same
vehicle during a series of conservative redesigns, until 1997, when
the 1998 Silverado replaced it.
For consignment a very well done restoration, the beneficiary of a
body off frame process completed in April of 2021. A sweet crate
engine, rebuilt original tranny, a virtually new interior, and nice
2 stage 2 tone paint. Awesome retro late 70's never looked so
good.
Exterior
Off the frame the original body went, where steel surfaces were
painstakingly smoothed and sanded, and then put back together with
well minded gaps, and bathed in nicely applied Cordova Brown
Metallic paint with gold accenting panels in the center. Then clear
coated and polished to perfection. Definitely the deep end of the
pool on the paint. The trimmings were polished and now are
appearing in snappy shiny square and rectangle design right from
the factory floor. Badging is also perfect with the bowties and
quarter panel badges. A gold painted tubular step up/running board
is on either side. Large chrome mirrors hang off the doors and
glass is all clear with nice trimmings encircling them. The bed has
been also restored and then covered with a tough textured rubber
flooring liner. The gate was removed and an open tubular custom
fashioned gate is now holding things into the bed. A rubber covered
top rear bumper is nice and perfectly shiny, and provides a secure
step up to the bed. This bed is bathed in Cordova Brown just like
the body. 31x10.5x15LT raised white knobby type lettered tires have
shiny 15-inch truck rally wheels on each corner affixed to
them.
Interior
The original looking panels are completely restored and now see tan
vinyl and plastic covering them along with a patch of brushed
aluminum, framed by embossed Sheridan style metal trimming. The
lowers are brown carpeting. Wonderful slightly textured light tan
broadcloth is reserved for the inserts on the bench, and bolsters
are a piped darker tan vinyl. The dash is pure 1979 GM with square
and rectangle design that wraps around the steering wheel, and
contains plenty of round gauge, knobs, pulls, and climate control
sliders. This truck is equipped with Vintage Air air conditioning
as well. An aftermarket radio is AM/FM/MP3 capable and belts out
tunes through door mounted speakers. In the center of the hump is a
wood custom made console with cup holders and a storage tray
wrapping around the 4WD shifter. Gold carpeting floods the floors,
and above is a nice tight fuzzy gold broadcloth headliner. Great
job on the interior!
Drivetrain
Opening the hood and I'm seeing double with a polished metal panel
adhered to the inner hood reflecting the mill below. This mill is
weighing in at a 350ci V8 crate engine which the consignor stated
puts out 350hp although no verification exists on this statement.
On the back is a rebuilt turbo 350 3-speed automatic transmission,
and on top is an Edelbrock intake with 4 barrel carb attached to
it. The rear axle is a 12 bolt and the ratio is unknown. Headers
and a Turbo Muffler system are installed so B R E A T H E out with
ease...R E L A X, it's going to run just great! Ahhhhh.
Undercarriage
Due to the frame off restoration, the underside is just as nice as
the topside. All rust free black frame, rockers, stamped floor
pans, like new dual fuel tanks, dual exhaust which snakes rearward
to a stage left and right post rear wheel well side exit, Seen is a
totally leak and drip free transmission and oil pan. Like new power
disc brakes are up front, and power drums for the rear, as well as
all very clean suspension with no road dirt to be seen underneath.
Both axles have been rebuilt completely.
Drive-Ability
I slipped inside and was amazed at the attention to detail with the
paint, interior surfaces, like new dash, and just....everything!
She fired right up and to the test track we drove where this truck
nicely however.... Somewhat sloppy power steering, nice abundant
and seemingly never ending acceleration, and even a smooth
comfortable cruise with plenty of interior room. Braking was a bit
of an issue where sometimes the pedal went to the floor and when
pushing the pedal hard, the truck would not stop. (Which is why any
self respecting crash test dummy writer/test driver tests these
FIRST!) The AC blows warm.
From head to toe, top and bottom, every inch is near perfect in
looks, fit and finish on this '79 Silverado trimmed K10 4x4 pickup.
Get in and turn the key and you'll be the envy of your construction
crew showing up to the site in this beauty. It's that nice, you
could even take the wife out to an expensive dinner in it to
celebrate your purchase of said truck, (although make sure there is
a nice gift on the seat for her when she gets in, because after all
you bought the truck...). Hmmmmmmmm, also be sure to have the
brakes looked into just to be on the safe side!
