Vehicle Description
1995 Toyota Celsior Sedan
In Japan, the launch of Lexus was complicated by Toyota's existing
four domestic dealership networks at the time of its introduction.
The Toyota Crown and Toyota Century were exclusive to Toyota Store
locations. During the LS 400's development, local dealers' requests
for a Japanese domestic market version had grown, and a
right-hand-drive Toyota Celsior-badged version was introduced
shortly after the LS 400's U.S. debut, and introduced on 9 October
1989 and only available at Toyopet Store locations. The Celsior,
named after the Latin word for "supreme", was largely identical to
the LS.
Konnichiwa! For consignment right out of the Far East you are
gazing at a Japanese version of the Lexus LS400. This one though is
a bit different, mainly the right hand drive of this model as well
as adjustable suspension. Noted this car is not legal to drive in
the State of California due to emissions concerns. Arigatou!
Exterior
Ebony Teal Pearl, (dark green), bathes the steel panels and
neoprene bumpers of this car. Aero inserted headlights grace the
front and a tasteful grille is in front with the Toyota badge. Most
hardware is on the car showing in black, and 4 doors allow easy
access for all passengers front and back. Nice and gently rounded
over curves show the aerodynamic strength that was so prevalent in
even today's cars. The bottom third of this car is a lighter
green/gray and adds some highlight to this otherwise black car.
Interior
Inside is 50 shades of gray territory, (no safe world needed here
though), where we find doors with black uppers, some organic design
padded gray broadcloth and molded plastic lowers. A burl accenting
on the armrest houses the window controls and lock button. Inside
we are all right hand drive with more gray shades for the
broadcloth buckets which are showing as power operated. White
doilies are stitched to the tops of the seats. The back bench is
from the same materials and looks like new and also has the doilies
stitched on to it. More wood accenting for the center console where
the shift lever rises to the drivers left hand. Standard Toyota
displays and gauges are all on and functioning. Gray carpeting and
a gray headliner are both nice and clean and tight.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is more plastic coverings than a vacuum packed
Christmas Gift. It all looks nice and clean but to work on it may
require an MBA degree. Seriously though, it is very clean here too.
Within this encasement of plastic is a 4.0 liter V8 with EFI, and a
factory 4-speed automatic turning the 3.62 geared rear axle.
Undercarriage
Underneath is clean surfaces including the framing, floor pans and
suspension. Here we see computerized adaptive compressed air ride
for all 4 corners as well as power disc braking all around and dual
exhaust is rust free.
Drive-Ability
Got in the right hand side and took off which was just a bit
unnerving in this larger car. It performed great, and all functions
were functioning nicely.
So to sum it up, an import Lexus with factory air ride adjustable
suspension, clean interior and near flawless exterior. Ja Mata.
