Vehicle Description
1965 Ford F100 Pickup
In 1925 the Ford Motor Company introduced the first "pickup" based
on the Model T Runabout. Ford offered the rear "pickup box"
separately at their dealer parts department for $25.00. The box was
then bolted onto the back of the vehicle as an accessory. Since the
box was "picked up" at the parts department by the customer, the
term "pickup" took hold for this style of vehicle. Later the box
was installed at the factory and evolved into today's pickup
trucks.
For consignment, a Ford F-100 pickup truck right out of 1965 that
was fully restored and given a bit of custom on the interior. Lots
of attention to detail has been paid to this truck, and this final
product shows it with the quality paint and great running 352ci V8
engine. These trucks seem to be very popular at Classic Auto Mall
lately, so it is suggested you show up sooner rather than later for
your chance to have it permanently in your collection.
Exterior
The beneficiary of a well done cosmetic restoration, this truck is
bathed in Royal Blue metallic which was applied skillfully but does
have a few touch ups and scratches. A deep end of the pool
application that is accentuated by restored badging, a near perfect
chrome and stainless grille, good chromed brite work, and
all-around hot rodder look right out of SoCal with the right stance
and the chrome steelies...why would you have anything else there?
Leading back from the bright and shiny grille is an expansive hood
with the Ford V8 logo and FORD spelled out between the parking
lights. Under the black vinyl snap on the bed cover is a fully gray
felting lined bed floor and we note a small storage compartment on
the passenger's side exterior of the bed. Adorning each corner are
15-inch chrome steel wheels that are well polished for the go-fast
look. A FORD block letter embossed tailgate rests above a shiny and
clean chrome bumper and the factory tall thin tail lights on either
side. Now that's attention to detail!
Interior
A complete restoration here too, we start with a low back bench
seat covered with a clean tan Mexican blanket overtop of the gray
broadcloth. Black carpeting covers the floor and is showing as
lightly stained. The steel dash has been sprayed with body matching
blue and remains a full metal jacket and a dark blue painted column
grows toward the driver and is topped with the factory black
plastic steering wheel. Adding some contrast, a black bezel sits in
front of the driver and holds the factory gauge cluster within.
Underneath are a bevy of chrome trimmed knobs and pulls and dash
central displays an aftermarket AM/FM/CD stereo. The door panels
have also been done to the max with gray wood laminate fighting for
space along with a black armrest, chrome cranks and body matching
blue steel. Diamond pleated black cloth for the clean headliner
that presents well with the rear of the cab wrapped in the same
material.
Drivetrain
Perhaps one of the cleanest, simplest engine bays seen in a while.
All finished in more black and holding within is a 352ci V8 all
bathed in Ford Blue Feeding this mill is a 2bbl carburetor and some
chrome for the valve covers and air cleaner lid dresses up the
engine just perfectly. Attached to the back is a Borg Warner
3-speed manual transmission with overdrive sending power to a Ford
9" rear axle.
Undercarriage
Unrestored but solid with a fine mix of patina, solid steel framing
and surface rust from bow to stern. The stock twin I-beam, radius
arm and coil spring suspension provides the ride up front and in
the back are leaf springs with drum brakes seen all around. Dual
exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers handles the exhale and creates a
wonderful melodious tune.
Drive-Ability
My partner in crime and I could not wait to dive into this beauty,
and it did not disappoint. Stylin would best describe the feeling
when inside. She fired right up, and it was off to the test track.
Here she showed us her stuff with snappy acceleration, good
handling, and bias free stopping power. Inside, a fairly quiet
ride, but outside a great exhaust sound resonates through the
valley of our test track. As we slipped off the track and headed
back to the mall, a satisfied look was seen on both our faces as we
were hooked!
A stunning truck with plenty of interior upgrades, and meticulous
attention paid to the body, paint and exterior. Hop in, turn the
key, and head on down that strip leaving behind only the cloud of
dust...fade in surf music.
