Vehicle Description
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to offer this spectacularly restored
1991 Mercedes-Benz 250GD for your consideration. This 250GD was
professionally restored by the Expedition Motor Company out of
Frenchtown, NJ. The Expedition Motor Company's restoration process
begins with scouring Europe for high quality Gelandewagens. They
often use military connections to source high-grade vehicles that
will result in an exceptional final product. Once an example has
been selected, the vehicle is imported to the States where it
begins the next step in the restoration process. Each truck
undergoes a full inspection and fifty mile test drive upon arrival
at the restoration facility. The transmission and engine are also
opened up and examined to identify what refurbishments are needed.
Following these stages, each truck is disassembled down to the
frame and sandblasted. Every single bolt, screw, hose, line, and
switch is removed from the vehicle to ensure that there are no
hidden surprises. The next step is restoring the brake and
suspension components along with other components of the driveline.
Everything is completely overhauled from the fuel tanks to the
electrical system to ensure a quality final product. In the same
vein, the engine and transmission receive replacement parts for
worn components and are completely rebuilt if necessary. After
everything is mechanically sound, the body panels are stripped down
to bare metal and prepped for a top-shelf paint job. After
everything has been restored, the assembly process begins and is
concluded with a thorough 125-mile test drive in varying conditions
to test the vehicle for all circumstances. Then, the vehicle is off
to the customer.
For this specific example, the engine was removed and taken apart
for assessment in accordance with the Expedition Motor Company's
restoration process. It received new front and rear crankshaft
seals, new cylinder head bolts, new cylinder head gasket, the
radiator was recorded, a new timing belt and water pump were
installed, as were a new oil pan gasket and timing belt tensioner
pulley. As for the transmission, the gearbox housing was refinished
and new seals were installed. This example also received a new
clutch and throw-out bearing. The Expedition Motor Company deemed
the transfer case to be in good working condition and thus it was
just cleaned and reassembled with new seals. The axles were removed
from the vehicle and inspected. Everything was reassembled with new
seals and gaskets in addition to the bugs being regreased. New
brake lines and hoses were installed, the calipers were rebuilt,
drums reconditioned, and new pads/shoes, and rotors were installed.
Regarding the body, frame, suspension, and steering components,
everything was restored in accordance to the process detailed
above.
This example is finished in a wonderful Olive Green color and
features a Spice vinyl interior. It is powered by the 2.5L diesel
motor which routes power to all four wheels through a 5-speed
manual transmission. There were over 1450 man hours put into this
restoration and it is apparent throughout the vehicle that the goal
was perfection. Below is a link to Expedition Motor Company's
