Vehicle Description
1985 Toyota Celica Supra
The Toyota Supra is a sports car and grand tourer manufactured by
the Toyota Motor Corporation beginning in 1978. The name "supra" is
derived from the Latin prefix, meaning "above", "to surpass" or "go
beyond".
For consignment, a 1985 Toyota Supra in fully restored format.
Sporting a mere 81,862 title verified miles, this racy aero skate
from across the Pacific is looking just great and nearly close to
showroom new. Oh, did I mention it's loaded with power amenities
galore? Read on and sink into some Far East sportiness.
Note: This vehicle is sold with a Maryland Rebuilt branding on the
title***
Exterior
Nicely applied Super Deep Red paint covers straight gapped steel
panels with matching crash bumpers, mirrors and badging. Hidden
headlights increase the slipstream coefficient for this boxy aero
sports car as well as the slightly rounded black neoprene surround
encompassing the wide blacked out grille opening. All nicely
sculpted with a mix of diamond edging, square and rectangle design
and some rounded aerodynamic style work together to mean business
and even the door handles have been designed as flush mounted to
cut down on drag. Speaking of style, check out the slowly sloping
roofline that dips down the hatchback style with a matte black
spoiler mounted up high and a rear wiper below. On the back,
integrated smoothed over edge rectangle tail lights float within a
black field above another neoprene molded rounded rear bumper.
14-inch standard alloy wheels are on all 4 corners and are wrapped
in BF Goodrich Radial TA rubber. Overall the exterior presents as
nearly new with no rust and only a few very small imperfections in
the Deep Red finish.
Interior
Charcoal black leather bathes this interior. Door panels are two
toned with the charcoal inserts and black molded vinyl. Power door
locks and power window toggles are built in the armrest. Black
stitched leather edged carpeting forms pockets in the lower doors
for stowage. 2 Excellent condition tuck and roll insert and wrap
around your body bolstered buckets are in front and in the charcoal
gray. These have high backs and headrests and grab on to you like a
Phys Ed teacher who's had enough of your BS and wants it to stop
NOW, (oh wait! that was my dad!). But I digress as the remainder of
the interior needs describing. In back is a 2 plus 2 setup with the
tuck and roll motif. These chairs float in gray carpeting which is
nice and clean and protected by rubber diamond plate floor mats.
The square and rectangle design continues for the dash with the
instrumentation under a rectangular hooded dash top in black. In
the center a veritable mixing board-esque stereo with many knobs
and sliders and buttons and bells and whistles resides and it has
an owner lighter delete. This moves down to a molded black center
console with more toggles and a stylish T shifter.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is the original 2.8 Liter I-6 mill. It sports EFI
and a factory 3 speed automatic tranny. The rear axle is 3.91. All
unrestored and all looking mostly clean.
Undercarriage
Plenty of patina, road dirt and corrosion on certain aluminium
parts, ( oh wait it's Japanese its ARUMINUM!). The pumpkin is wet
where the drive shaft enters it, but no rust and structurally
sound. Independent McPhersoln struts in front and independent coil
springs for the front. Braking is front and rear power disc, and a
single stock style exhaust is on.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter and great driver with a surprisingly comfortable
ride. This sports car for the Far East handled the test track like
a cat on carpet and exhibited many traits that far more expensive
European cars of the era offered up at double the price. A joy to
drive with all functions, er....functional.
