Vehicle Description
Ever want to be the most intimidating and interesting person at
every stoplight? This 1981 Buick Regal is a road-legal tribute
built to Darrell Waltrip's #11 Mountain Dew NASCAR racer. And while
the uprated V8 and rumbling exhaust give it stock car racer fun,
this also remains comfortable with an overdrive transmission and
plush interior. So it's built to be a driver, and there's no better
way to turn heads everywhere you go.
NASCAR fans need no introduction to this car. Darrell Waltrip is a
true legend, and his Mountain Dew Buick was his winningest car
ever. This tribute looks quite authentic because it comes from a
person known to take time specifically recreating Darrell Waltrip
racers. The white coupe was like a blank canvas for all the
sponsorship decals and detailed green livery with red pinstripes.
The whole package is quite complete, and it has that hint of use so
that it looks like it spent a few races out on the track. You'll
even love the details, like the headlight covers, hood pins, rear
spoiler, and racecar wheels. And while this one looks like it's off
to the races, beneath the surface there's a lot more usefulness
than just a competition appearance.
The interior does a good job of giving you the racecar look and
feel without taking out the everyday usability. For example, you
have M&R harnesses to make the seats look competition-ready,
but unlike racing seats, they still kept the Regal's plush style
that's all-day comfortable. This has a roll bar installed, but it
doesn't prevent you from using the back seats. And while you can
tack up the window net for a true stock car look, you first need to
roll down the power windows. There's also a tilt steering column,
an upgraded AM/FM/cassette stereo with CD changer, and provisions
for air conditioning (it will need servicing to blow cold again.)
But this comfortable interior still does give you the race-ready
feeling. You have a B&M Quicksilver shifter, full auxiliary
readouts, a sports steering wheel, and a large AutoMeter Autogage
tach. There are even NASCAR-style details, like the windshield
reinforcements and the large rear view mirror.
Under the hood is a 350 cubic-inch V8. It's larger than anything
available in this generation Regal, and the displacement gets it
much closer to the NASCAR regulation size of the time. It even has
all the right go-fast goodies, like an Edelbrock four-barrel
carburetor, an Edelbrock aluminum intake, and headers that add even
more power as they connect with the race-style side exhaust. The
700R4 four-speed transmission is a great gearbox to give you stout
construction and the usefulness of overdrive. In fact, with power
steering, power brakes, and front discs, this NASCAR-style machine
is really a fine all-around cruiser.
Just imagine what people will think when you pull up to stoplights
next to them. This is a fun tribute with a cool look, great sound,
and a nice practical side. So if you like distinction at a value
