Vehicle Description
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to offer this 1938 Ford Model 81A DeLuxe
for your consideration. In '38 you could either order a Ford from
the 'Standard' line or from the 'DeLuxe' line. With this example
being the upscale DeLuxe, it was fitted with the 85 horsepower
221ci Flathead V8 motor which routed power to the rear wheels
through a 3-speed manual transmission.
In 1938 the Ford Model 81A DeLuxe received special treatment being
offered with new front end sheet metal that was unique to the '38
model. The DeLuxe was the first to be styled by E.T. Gregorie's new
design section. The green paint shows well on the exterior as do
all exterior chrome bits especially considering the age of the
vehicle. Thick white wall tires can be seen on the exterior and
complement the swooping body lines that are the hallmark of pre-war
vehicles. Once inside, one will note the interior is fairly
spartan, yet very comfortable. The gray velour seats are in
fantastic condition as are the banjo steering wheel and all of the
gauges.
The Ford's of the 1930's were on the cutting edge of engineering
and design. That automotive era had many companies throwing their
hats in the ring of automotive engineering. Design changes were
frequent and mechanical performance and options were constantly
being developed. 1938 Fords, with their one off grille design, are
quite rare and remain very desirable. A car of this caliber
commands world attention and remains a great automotive investment.
