Vehicle Description
Cruisin Classics is pleased to present for your consideration this
beautiful and rare 1983 Zimmer Golden Spirit. The Zimmer Motorcar
Corp. was established in 1978 as a manufacturer of neo-classic
automobiles and produced approximately 1,500 Golden Spirits between
1980 and 1988. At it's peak in the 80's they employed 175 people
and had 25 million in annual revenue. The Golden Spirits were made
from new Mustangs supplied by Ford which were modified by
stretching the frame for a longer wheelbase and adding a fiberglass
body (leaving only the steel doors from the Mustang). The Mustang
VIN was retained as it met all the required US safety regulations
at the time. This particular example is number 476 of the cars
produced and the only one we've ever seen with T-tops. It was
originally delivered to a dealership in Loves Park, Illinois with a
price of $66,547 in late 1983. It currently has only 12,541 miles
and still looks spectacular! There are so many cool features to see
on this car that it's almost overwhelming! The overall styling is
elegant with long flared front fenders rising over the tires, an
incredibly long hood with faux exhaust tubes connecting to the
fenders, faux spare tire holders on both sides and the trunk, and a
commanding chrome grill with a 24K gold plated eagle hood ornament
to top it off. The opulent excess doesn't stop here though, the
running boards have Teak wood slats, the padded vinyl landau top is
separated from the t-tops by two burled wood bands with a center
strip of chrome, the entire trunk exterior is covered in padded
vinyl (even the gas cap!) and has leather straps and chrome
buckles, the front end sports fog lights, cowl lights, 4
trumpet-style air horns, polished steel badge bar, and unbelievably
large headlights, and it all rests on chrome-plated wire spoke
wheels with Zimmer center-caps wrapped in coker wide white-wall
tires. Additional exterior features include flared chrome exhaust
tips, flag holders on the front bumper, power antenna, opera
windows for the rear passengers, and scroll emblems on the landau
top. This Golden Spirit is dressed in it's original white paint with
brown and tan pinstriping. The paint has fared quite well over the
last 40 years and is in good driver quality. The chrome and
brightwork is in very good condition as well. Under the hood you'll
be pleased to find a bone stock 5 liter 4V HO 302ci Ford V-8 mated
to a 3-speed automatic transmission with rear wheel drive. This is
a great powerplant for this car - powerful, reliable, and easy to
find parts for if necessary. While under the hood you'll see that
this Zimmer comes equipped with power steering, power brakes
(disc/drum), and working A/C. It's no surprise that when you open
the drivers door you are greeted by a sophisticated and high
quality interior. The power Recaro bucket seats are dressed in
imported leather and are quite comfortable. The center console and
the dash both feature burled wood panels that add to the luxurious
feel. The floors are covered with imported Mouton carpet and kept
nice by factory Zimmer floormats. Ahead of the driver is a wood
three-spoke Nardi steering wheel. Creature-comforts abound with
power locks, power windows, interior controls for the chrome side
mirrors, tilt column, cruise control, intermittent wipers, quartz
clock, Blaupunkt AM/FM/Cassette stereo, and lighted vanity mirrors
on both visors. Rear seat passengers are treated to comfortable
leather seats, entry/exit handles, opera windows, directional
reading lamps, and German crystal flower vases mounted on each side
wall. All courtesy lights work, including the glovebox - where
you'll find a trunk popper. The inside of the trunk is completely
finished in the same plush Mouton carpet as the interior. The trunk
contains a full spare and jack, t-top bags and hold-down straps,
original owner's manual, original owners guide, sales brochure,
protecto-plate, and a copy of the factory to dealer order sheet for
the car. If you're looking for a car that offers luxury
appointments, great driveability, and gets attention literally
everywhere it goes then look no further - this is it!
