The Austin-Healey 100-4 BN1 roadster was introduced at the Earl's Court - London Motor Show and was a huge success. As such, Healey also produced a race version, the ultra-rare 100S and offered similar "M LeMans" upgrades to cars sold for street use, either at the factory or through dealerships.

After building more than 10,000 BN1s in three years, Austin introduced a new Healey, known as the BN2, for 1955. This car featured a four-speed transmission and was offered both in standard trim and well as a new "hot" model, the 100M 'Le Mans'. This model adopted larger carburetors, a high-lift cam, higher 8.1:1 compression, stiffer front suspension and a louvered hood secured by a leather strap. True factory-built 100M Le Mans Competition Roadsters accounted for only 640 cars, which are all tracked and documented by a dedicated registry and the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust.

This car is indeed one of the 640 built from factory in Le Mans specification. Restored in the UK circa 2008, this matching number, North American specification 100M used an enjoyed a few thousand miles. The numbers-matching 2,660cc inline-four was refurbished in 2005 by Denis Welch Motorsport of Staffordshire, England, and features twin SU HD6 carburetors, a polished aluminum valve cover, 8.1:1-compression pistons, a high-lift camshaft, and a cold-air box. In 2015 it was used in the famed Mille Miglia Retrospective in Italy. Circa 2018 it was acquired by its most recent owner and imported to the United States.

With vintage tours in mind, this 100M has been outfitted with a Monit rally tripmeter, Moto-Lite wood-rim steering wheel, the bumpers have been removed and replaced with rear bumperettes, Lucas front driving lamps have been fitted and a Denis Welch tachometer, two fuel pumps with a switch to go to a backup if needed and first and second gears are straight cut. Servicing during 2021 included, new Painted 15? wire wheels with two-eared knock-offs, 185/70 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, repacking the wheel bearings, replacing the brake shoes, springs, rebuilt brake master cylinder, gearbox rebuild and new clutch.

In the recent past, this 100M has been used and enjoyed on the Copperstate 100, The California Mille and the SCM 1000.

An exceptional 100M Le Mans with superb provenance, it is turn key, ready and dialed for immediate use and enjoyment.
