For Sale: 1965 Factory Five Cobra in Charlotte, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

Historically, Cobras were built with a singular focus. They were designed to get around a track as fast as possible without breaking anything in the process. But, as the Greek philosopher Heraclitus once said, "Everything changes, and nothing stands still". These days, Cobras have evolved to not only be great track cars, but also great investments, storied show cars and exceptionally fun cruisers. Speaking of fun, show worthy classics that can still kick asphalt at the track, check out this fully sorted Factory Five roadster. Since you can already see the car's charming aesthetics, and you already know that Factory Five designs some of the best Cobra replicas on the market, the show and go parts of the equation are obvious. What isn't so obvious is 351 cubic inches of brutal Windsor V8, a tough Tremec 5-speed and countless performance upgrades that make the car an excellent companion for cruising. Looking for a pro-built Cobra that's ready to rock and roll? Here it is!

DESIGNED AND ASSEMBLED BY PROFESSIONALS

Factory Five Racing has long been applauded for their great fiberglass work, and this Cobra is no exception. The car's virtually flawless profile, modeled on two well-known Shelby classics, is a one-piece, hand-laid Vinylester shell that was laminated to 3/16ths, CNC trimmed and covered in a .015-inch gel coat. That gel lays excellent groundwork for handsome two-stage, which lays traditional stripes over what appears to be Factory Five's own Deep Pacific Blue. And today, this super slick roadster is one head-turning custom that's ready for the track, the boulevard or the show!

In the world of Cobras, crude detailing is often the downfall of an otherwise excellent build. Not so with this professionally assembled MKIII, as the gurus at Greensboro, North Carolina's Whitby Motorcars ensured every aspect of the car's build enhances Shelby's innate style and appeal. At the front of this classic, stainless-trimmed halogen headlights join bullet-style parking lamps to frame bright Quick Lifts and a stylish Shelby emblem. Behind that badge, a fully finished hood arcs a small scoop between polished latches. A polished, bullet-style racing mirror reflects a stainless-trimmed windscreen between a polished roll bar, tinted visors and Factory Five wind wings. Beneath those wings, coated side-pipes follow polished heat extractors and classy Ford fender emblems. And at the back of the car, sinuous quarters hang stainless-trimmed taillights between a polished Monza fuel filler, a second stylish Shelby emblem and polished deck hardware that complements more bright Quick Lifts.

BLUE OVAL BRAWN

Check this Cobra's clean engine bay and you'll find 351 cubic inches of proven Ford Windsor that was purchased directly from Lebanon, New Jersey's Engine Factory, Inc. At the top of that high output roller mill, a small K&N air cleaner feeds an 800cfm Edelbrock 4-barrel that's paired with a reliable electric choke. Those barrels tune a precise mixture of air and fossils for a proven Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and cast iron cylinder heads. The fires get lit by Performance Distributors Davis Unified Ignition, which sequences spark through loomed and sleeved Ford Racing plug wires. Those wires thread ceramic coated headers. Modern pulleys spin a modern alternator next to a Ford Blue water pump. Cooling comes courtesy of a tilted radiator, which shades a large SPAL puller fan. Choice detailing includes a polished oil pan, a Wilwood clutch cylinder and tasteful Cobra valve covers that are dotted with a muted Ford Racing breather. And, thanks to quality tuning by Olthoff Racing, it all adds up to 360 dyno-proven horsepower at the car's rear wheels.

ENJOY THE DRIVE

Rule number one of hot rodding: an excellent drivetrain isn't worth the metal it's built from unless it's paired with a competent chassis. Behind this Cobra's hot powerplant, a tough Tremec 5-speed spins a familiar 8.8-inch axle that, thanks to a Traction Lok differential and big, 3.73 gears, ensures whiplash-inducing acceleration while still allowing the car to loaf along at highway speeds. That taut drivetrain pushes a Factory Five three-link that's finished with a proven Panhard Bar and modern coil-over-shocks. An independent front-half hangs two more modern coil-overs between tubular control arms. Turns come courtesy of manual rack-and-pinion steering. Stops are provided by power-assisted calipers, which squeeze vented discs. And power meets the pavement through Halibrand-style wheels, which twist flashy spinners inside 235/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As and 295/50R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As.

THE ESSENCE OF ROADSTER

Between the doors, it's all purpose all the time, as monochromatic vinyl and fade-free carpet culminate in a simple yet attractive driving environment. Front and center, deep buckets pin soft pleats under four-point Simpson harnesses. Looking forward, an upholstered dash props crisp AutoMeter Cobra telemetry next to a locking glovebox. An angled shifter joins a polished extinguisher between polished door latches, colorful Cobra floor mats and sporty AC foot pedals. The driver carves curves through a polished and wood-rimmed steering wheel. And the car's clean trunk hides a trusty Optima battery.

A track-bred Cobra that's civil enough to parade down Main Street, who says you can't have your cake and eat it too? Don't miss your opportunity to own this spectacular Factory Five roadster!
