Vehicle Description
1985 Toyota Sr5 4x4 I got this truck in July 2022 from the family
that bought it brand new at the Toyota dealership in La Quinta Ca
in October 1984 (Truck was built in 1984 but it is a model year
1985). The truck has always lived in the dry climate of AZ. I
bought this truck as a father son project and our objective was to
get it back in nice running, driving and overall condition but not
go crazy to the point of restoration or painting over the original
condition from the past 37 years of it's life. I wanted the next
owner to see the condition and once they are the new owner they can
decide to restore or detail it as they see fit. There is nothing
worse than looking at a vehicle and seeing spray paint covering the
wheel wells and frame/suspension leaving you to wonder what it
looks like under that paint, so we left it alone in original 1985
condition. - Here is a list of things we replaced on the truck-
Belts air filter oil/filter vacuum lines from LC engineering and a
OEM Toyota PCV valve battery cap, rotor, plugs, wires 31x10.50r15
Pathfinder Tires from discount tire. The Wheels from 1985 come with
the truck as well, they were a gold wheel with chrome lip but the
gold is flaking off . fuel pump, screen, ALL rubber fuel lines and
gas cap odds and ends like tail light lenses, interior dome light
lense, plastic door trim by door handle, dash cover, wiper blades
front and rear shocks drive shaft carrier bearing exhaust was
replaced behind the cat with a new muffler and tailpipe since the
original muffler had a leak. I left the original cat and all
emissions parts that came on the truck new Incase it were to sell
somewhere that does emissions testing. (This does not mean it will
pass, we don't have emissions testing here I simply kept the
components on the truck) The paint and graphics on the truck appear
to be original from what I can tell and I don't see any areas that
look to have any body filler or body repairs done. I cut, buffed
and polished the paint and it turned out really nice considering
it's age but it's in no way perfect and I'm not a professional
detailer so I'm sure the right detail pro can make it look better.
The sleeper cab on this truck was installed in 1985 by the original
owner and from what I can tell has always stayed on the truck since
1985. It was color matched and you can tell the company that
painted the sleeper used a base coat/clear coat process which the
clear in parts has started to fail but the color still looks nice.I
have driven this truck locally on the highway and around town and
it drives great and has plenty of power. It will drive 70mph down
the highway without a problem.THINGS THAT I HAVE NOTICED WHILE
OWNING THIS TRUCK- While we did spend the last 5 months fine tuning
this and cleaning it up there is always more that can be done to
make something perfect and if someone tells you a vehicle is
perfect they're probably lying. So the things I noticed that could
be addressed are passenger side rear brake sometimes will stop
harder than the rest (still completely road worthy I'm just
pointing out things I noticed) on startup sometimes it will run a
little rough (again still completely drivable, just has a little
sputter/miss at idle sometimes). you can hear a timing chain noise
and from what I have read the guides will go bad and it's common in
these 22re engines. driver seat is original and has the typical
wear and tear so the seats could use a reupholster or covers. A
good painless dent guy on the passenger bedside lower panel could
really make that look great. Unfortunately, I live in small town
and we have one PDR shop that was unwilling to work on a vehicle
this age. AC is the original r12 system. It is 100%completely
there, and the belt is still on the compressor, but I never got
into updating it to 134a. It does not blow cold. I Have a clean
clear title in my name that is signed and notarized. Please Note
