1958 Chevrolet Red Corvette
Car History
In 1958 Chevrolet built cars for enthusiasts that demanded
uncompromising speed and performance and the 1958 Chevrolet
Corvette, like the one we have here at Adventure Classics, offered
a near race-ready Corvette they made available at local dealerships
across the country, and at prices that made buying even the highest
end Corvette affordable.
We have a great drive Corvette here in bright red/white coves with
a GM small block Chevrolet 350 cubic inch backed by a 4-speed
transmission, and riding on fat tires and polished 5-spoke American
racing wheels.
Engine & Drivetrain
The biggest engine available in 1958 was a 283 cubic inch engine,
but ours now sports a later model GM 350 cubic inch engine dolled
out with a chrome open air cleaner assembly , chrome and red finned
valve covers, aluminum intake, fuel injection system with computer
controller, dual exhaust, chrome alternator, aftermarket aluminum
radiator, radiator fan, with all sitting in a clean, and detailed
engine compartment.
It is backed by a four-speed manual transmission that shifts very
smoothly and rides on great on fat tires and polished 5-spoke
American racing wheels.
Interior
The black and silver interior has twin black bucket seats, black
carpet, matching door panels, all the factory instruments in the
dash with a 160-mph speedometer which dominated most of the
dashboard, while a smaller 6000 rpm tachometer was placed ahead of
it on the steering column.
Flanking the tachometer on each side was a pair of standard
instrument gauges that monitored fuel levels, oil pressure, engine
temperature and battery charge. Emerging from the dashboard and
mating with the center console is a narrower, vertical console
which housed the heater controls, the clock and a radio.
It also has a black leather wrapped steering wheel, chrome Hurst
shifter and ivory Hurst shift ball, a nice-fitting red hard top
that matches the paint.
Exterior
Most collectors will agree that the 1958 Corvette design is
timeless and widely recognized, and ours sports the bright red
paint scheme set off by the white painted coves on the side.
The body looks great with the hood louvers and trunk trim that were
exclusive to the 1958 as well as the chrome front and rear bumpers,
and of course the iconic way the exhausts exit out of that rear
bumper.
Conclusion
Early Corvettes like the 1958 Chevrolet Corvette we have here at
Adventure Classics are highly collectible and it's easy to see why
with our shiny red one.
This Corvette will be the center of attention anywhere it goes with
the flashy red paint combined with the white coves, mag wheels, and
hardtop.
