Vehicle Description
1974 Lincoln Mark IV Hardtop
Ah, the 1970's. It was the big decade, a time for big houses, big
hair, big families, big bell bottoms, and big cars! Despite this
being the Malaise Era, status seekers still knew what they liked.
Show the world you have arrived with a Fleetwood. Keep up with the
Jones' by buying a Cutlass. But according to stories I have heard,
if you were the owner of a Steakhouse, or a Car Wash, you drove one
of these...the Lincoln Continental Mark IV.
For consignment, priced for the everyday man, this large and in
charge Lincoln MK IV. Big steel panels, a padded vinyl roof, and
plenty of legroom, allow you to stretch out and go for a cruise,
all the while turning heads on Main Street!
Exterior
Those large steel panels are straight and original, as we're
talking a title verified mileage car here, that being 49,765 miles.
Original factory applied Cream drapes all the steel surfaces on
this biggie, with a color name that is befitting perfectly for this
car. This is topped off with a cream padded top featuring opera
windows mounted in the "B" pillars. Working hidden headlights flank
a massive Rolls-Royce style grille that protrudes from the hood. A
near perfect chrome bumper wraps around the bottom. Thin banded and
gold dressed stainless trim makes its way rearward circumnavigating
the wheel wells, and rocker panels, ending at the rear bumper,
which is also pristine. Badging is all correct, gaps are well
minded, and even exterior rear-view mirrors are near perfect. Thin
stripe whitewall radials surround massive plated wheel covers, all
original. A shout out to the gold carpeted trunk complete with the
carpeted spare tire cover and factory jack assembly.
Interior
Square gold and ivory tufted and buttoned and pillow topped leather
flank 2 leather armrests and make up the "cushy" front seating. The
same for the passengers in the rear, although they get a large
bench. Door panels have similar treatment and have wood grained
panels intermixed with the more gold and ivory leather. Within the
doors we note joystick controls for the mirror and seat, power
windows, and power locks for the doors and windows. A showroom
headliner is tightly hung above, and even the interior courtesy
light works! Looking toward the dash we see burl applique wood
grain with climate control, a clock, the speedometer, an original
Philco AM/FM radio, and several warning lights, all framed by a
gold padded vinyl upper dash, with no cracks or marring. Thick pile
gold carpeting showing very little wear or fading is flooding the
floors and holds on the hump a Cobra CB radio, got your ears on
good buddy?
Drivetrain
To propel this mass, within a clean engine bay, is a 460ci V8
shoehorned into the space. This is topped by a gas guzzling, but
power adding 4-barrel carburetor, and backed by a 3-speed automatic
C6 transmission. A Ford 9" rear axle with 2.75 gears propels this
mass down the highway. I can tell you from a test drive, there
aren't enough O's in smooooooth, to describe the wonderful ride,
and shifting I got from my test drive.
Undercarriage
Clean and clear, virtually no rust except for the occasional and
uneventful surface rust which has accumulated over the years, but
certainly has not impeded the structural underpinnings of this big
car. Independent coil spring front suspension, and 4 link and coil
spring rear suspension provide that cushy Lincoln ride and power
disc brakes are seen on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and smooth runner, albeit with a slight miss in
the engine at idle. This car provides a beautiful ride, and good
handling, as well as bias free panic stopping. All conveniences
were in working order except for the clock, and the seats were like
sitting in my home favorite recliner, especially so when I was
caressing my well manicured tootsies through the lush carpet.
In the day this car was way out of reach for the masses, and now
sits in near pristine condition awaiting its next driver who can
just smile in the ride, and comfort this car has to offer. All
original, well maintained, and pampered, this low mileage example
is sure to please even the most discriminating vintage '70's luxury
car aficionado.
