1979 Chevrolet K5 Blazer, LS conversion, 4x4
This restored 1979 Chevrolet K5 Blazer is powered by a resealed LS 5.3-liter V8 backed by a rebuilt 4L60-E four-speed automatic transmission, NP208 dual-range transfer case, and limited slip rear end. Features include auto-locking four-wheel drive, power steering, power front disc brakes, factory air conditioning with an R-134a conversion, power windows and locks, 33-inch BFGoodrich tires, a four-inch suspension lift, and a removable hard top. Finished in Tangier Orange with a black hard top over a gray vinyl and cloth interior, this Blazer is available now and comes with receipts, uninstalled bumper guards, and a clear Tennessee title.
EXTERIOR - FEATURES
During the restoration, the exterior was finished in Tangier Orange. Features include chrome bumpers, gray insert grille, a cowl-induction hood with hood pins, dual folding mirrors, a matte black roof with a removable rear section, tinted glass, side steps, and power rear glass. The seller states that the front bumper had fog lights installed previously see damage to front bumper photos. Additionally, there are minor imperfections to the body and surface scratches on the outside of the driver-side window. One of the videos below shows the exterior lighting in operation.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of 16-inch Unique D Window wheels is wrapped in older 305/70/R16 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A radial tires. A matching spare is located in the rear cargo compartment.
INTERIOR - FEATURES
The front bucket seats and the matching rear seat are upholstered in gray vinyl and cloth. Features include a tilting front passenger seat for rear seat access, folding rear bench seat, a center console, a tilt steering column with an automatic shifter, a floor-mounted transfer case shifter, LED courtesy lighting, air conditioning with an R-134a conversion, a Grant GT steering wheel, and an aftermarket digital AM/FM/CD stereo and speakers. Power features include the steering, brakes, windows, locks, and rear window.
INTERIOR - GAUGES
A set of Dakota Digital analog gauges includes a 160-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, and readouts for the fuel level, coolant temperature, voltage, and oil pressure. The digital odometer reads 2,500 miles, reflecting the mileage accrued since the engine and transmission swap. The seller believes there are approximately 90,000 miles on the engine and transmission, but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Power is provided by a recently tuned, catalytic convertor-compliant LS 5.3-liter V8 and transmitted through a rebuilt 4L60-E four-speed automatic transmission and an NP208 dual-range transfer case. According to the seller, the engine and transmission were sourced from a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado and installed in 2017. Underhood features include newer engine seals and gaskets, Hedman Hedders, a fresh air intake with a cone air filter, a Vortec engine cover, and aluminum valve covers. UNDERCARRIAGE
This Blazer was factory-equipped with a part-time four-wheel-drive 10-bolt solid front axle and a 12-bolt limited slip or positraction solid rear drive axle. A four-inch lift has been installed. Braking is provided by power front discs and rear drums. A full-length three-inch dual exhaust system exits at the rear with 3.5-inch chrome tips. The front and rear differential gears have been rebuilt and equipped with new seals and bearings. Additional photos of the undercarriage can be seen in photo gallery.
Second generation Chevrolet K5 Blazers are desirable, collectible classic vehicles. Nice Blazers are some of the hottest vehicles on the market. This K5 has the reliability and fuel efficiency of a late model drivetrain with the classic truck look. Recent coolant flush, oil change and transfer case fluid change, differential gear oil change, and a new belt.
