Vehicle Description
1951 Kaiser Deluxe Sedan. Understanding this car, and the option
package that provided its name is essential before discussing the
car itself. In 1951, Kaiser-Frazer stylist Carleton Spencer was
tasked with developing a luxury option package for the Kaiser
sedan, possibly due to the discontinuance of the high-line Frazer
Manhattan sedan. Spencer teamed with a New Jersey supplier to
create a new upholstery theme using patterned, pleated premium
vinyl, nicknamed "Dragon" because of its resemblance to alligator
hide. The resulting models, while still Kaiser DeLuxe sedans, were
called Dragons in honor of the trim package. This one-year-only
package was followed by a yearlong hiatus before the Kaiser Dragon
became a standalone model in 1953. This 1951 Kaiser DeLuxe Dragon
is considered a "first series" Dragon because it lacks the 1953
model's vinyl roof. It's unknown how many 1951 Kaisers had the $125
option package, but total DeLuxe sedan production that year came to
56,723 units that model year. This example appears to be mostly all
original besides one repaint and has what is apparently its
original Dragon interior. The back of the front seat, and sides of
the front and rear seats all have dragon material. We recently
drove this car on a 2hr trip to our dealership and it drove
excellently!
