Convertible Top In the 1970s the federal government continued
tightening safety standards on vehicles sold in the US. With the
fear of imminent federal rollover legislation looming over their
heads, Cadillac announced the 1976 Cadillac Eldorado was going to
be the last convertible ever built in Detroit. In fact, Cadillac
even made mention of it in their ads even hinting that they would
appreciate in value. It is the only convertible now built in
America. And it will be our last, the very last. Of course, as we
all know this ended up not being true when a coach builder began
converting 1979 Coup DeVilles into soft tops, and later both Ford
and Chrysler released factory-built convertibles in the early 80s.
Cadillac soon was eating their words as they started building
convertibles again in 1984. So, while it didn't turn out to be the
end of an era, the 1976 Eldorado remains as one of the last and
best examples of full-size GM convertibles of the mid-to-late
1970s. Featured here for sale is a stunning 1976 Cadillac Eldorado
painted in Silver with a white convertible top. The paint has been
well cared for with a few nicks and blemishes here and there, but
the finish shines with a nice luster. The chrome and related
stainless trim have been well cared for and shows only some light
patina and still gives off a rich shine. The power convertible top
works well and the optional fiberglass tonneau cover fits well and
is free of any cracks. The white convertible top was recently
replaced and is clean and fits well with no wrinkles. The
combination of the silver exterior with the red leather interior is
a striking combination. The luxurious seating is plush and the
leather upholstery remains exceptionally soft with some light
wrinkles and free of any rips or tears. Options include power
seats, tilt steering, power windows and locks, air conditioning,
cruise control, sentinel lighting, power top, power antenna, and
power trunk release. The factory radio has been replaced with an
aftermarket AM/FM/with AUX input. The trunk is clean and features a
cloth floor cover and side inserts. A full-size spare and the
factory bumper jack and related tools are present. Under the hood
sits a 500cid V8 that has been lightly detailed. The engine
compartment presents as well maintained with recently replaced
coolant hoses, valve cover gaskets, and a new alternator. This
front-wheel drive is driven by a 3-speed automatic transmission.
The underbody Is in solid condition with the trunk floor and rear
passenger floorboards having been repaired. The four-wheel
hydra-boost power disc brakes have been completely serviced with a
new master cylinder, rubber brake, and hard brake lines. This
convertible cruises on 15 steel wheels with factory wheels covers
and 235/75R15Nexen thin white wall radial tires This convertible
provides an excellent opportunity for some drop-top driving. This
Caddy cruises well on the highway making it a great vehicle for
