Vehicle Description
1992 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham
Originally used for a single horse drawn enclosed carriage for 2-4
people, the "Brougham" owes its name to British statesman, Henry
Brougham. Cadillac first used the name in 1916 to designate an
enclosed 5-7 passenger sedan body style.
There is nothing better than getting into a "phat" Caddy and taking
it out for a cruise down Main Street. Even with all the high-end
European competition available today, the name Cadillac still is
associated with wealth and power. With this classic, the last year
of the Brougham, one can pile all their friends in, head out on a
road trip, and you'll be travelin' and stylin' all at the same time
in this 1 family owned, always garage kept, 68,432 original mile
version.
Exterior
From the massive front V styled chromed grille, to the squared off
early 90's design mantra of square and rectangle, (ie headlights,
bumpers, steel panels, roofline, trunkline, and vertical
taillights), this car shows in fair to good condition. Painted in
Maple Red and having good gaps the car shows a rust-free exterior
and the finish appears to be factory applied. Chrome and brite work
are in good condition. A stainless molding wraps around the car
just above the silver rocker, which shows some scuffing and marks
on it. The padded maroon vinyl top is in good condition with no
tears or scuffs. Wire wheel covers are all around and are wrapped
by thin white side walls.
Interior
Swinging open the massive front door, and you are met with Dark
Maple Red padded leather, wood veneer and plenty of toggles and
controls to drive all the mechanicals of this Brougham. Large
leather covered seats in front and in back afford plenty of room to
seat 6 adults comfortably. Between the front buckets is a large
console that doubles as a storage area and arm rest or can be
folded up to make room for a third. Peering forward to the dash you
will encounter a large amount of board feet of veneer with Dark
Maple Red vinyl padding intertwined. A digital instrument panel is
seen, as is the electronic climate control, power windows, power
locks, the factory AM/FM/Cassette player, and cruise control. Red
carpet floods the floors showing minor wear and a maroon headliner
is above looking just dandy.
Drivetrain
A 350ci V8 is under a massive hood in a very nice original engine
bay. It is fed by EFI and attached is a 700R4 4-speed automatic
transmission. In the back is a 10-bolt rear axle weighing in with
3.08 gears.
Undercarriage
Surface rust typical of this era car is present, and a few areas of
corrosion are noted. Overall a sturdy stable underside environment
with nice floor pans and clean frame. Independent coil spring front
suspension is present as is a 4 link set up with coil springs on
the rear. Power disc and drum brakes are noted along with a like
new single exhaust system.
Drivability
Slipping inside I began to wonder what the less fortunate folks
were doing, but then turned my attention to the gold key which
fired up the engine, which took me to the test track which put a
smile on my pampered tush. All worked fabulously save for the power
antenna, but nary even a peep from the suspension or engine during
my enjoyable high-end ride.
Early 90's design, and when folks would show status by the inch,
this nice condition Caddy oozed affluenceof the era. With all of
its service records, original window sticker and even the original
gold keys, it is here in the halls of Classic Auto Mall and
awaiting its king and queen to drive it onto the sunset.
