Throughout the mid-80s gradual improvements began to trickle in for the 3.2-liter 911 Carrera: integrated fog lights in 1984, an updated interior in 1986, in 1987 the new, and much improved G50 transmission was introduced, and by 1988 electric seat height adjustment was made standard. Porsche engineers are clearly loath to stand still! However, there are aspects of the 911 Porsche that would never change. It was still very much a hand built sports car as was the case upon introduction as the 901 in 1964. Direct steering feel, world class braking, and, of course, the raspy, metallic engine note of the famous air-cooled flat-six still remained. In fact, the combination of both old and new mark the late 1980s Carrera 3.2s as the most accessible, yet classic, generations of Porsche as it is with this 1988 911 Carrera Cabriolet.
