This 1973 Dodge Dart Sport represents one of the most reasonably priced classic Mopars, not to mention one of the most fun to drive with its rebuilt 340ci engine and 4-speed transmission. Aside from being more affordable, the A-platform also makes the Dart a more nimble, practical car than others in the Mopar lineup. Have you ever tried to fit a Super Bee in your garage? Or put anything larger than a golf bag in the trunk of a Cuda?
This example is a real LM29H Dart Sport 340 (formerly known as the Demon). It has spent time in North Carolina and presently shows 63k miles. The underside appears solid and shows replacement of the spare tire well and a small section of the left rear floor pan. The body has been repainted the correct 1973 code GB5 Bright Blue Metallic. There is a factory fiberglass hood scoop along with black graphics and Dart Sport emblems. Note the trunk spoiler is an add-on. The 14” Rallye wheels have Uniroyal tires (205/70, 245/60) that show very little wear but are more than 10 years old.
The original 340ci engine was replaced in kind with a 1971 block (2780930 casting) wearing X heads. It was fully rebuilt in 2011 and has less than 2,000 miles since. Features include SRP 10:1 pistons, Mopar Performance Purple camshaft, Holley 650cfm carburetor with electric choke, and Mopar electronic ignition. The 4-speed transmission had a full rebuild in 2015 and shifts like you’d expect. This Dart also has an upgraded 8-3/4” rear (small bolt pattern) and power front disc brakes.
The black interior has been redone and features front bucket seats with shoulder belts. It has attractive woodgrain accents as part of the decor package. And you can’t miss that pistol grip shifter! There is a set of aftermarket gauges below the dash along with a tachometer. A Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo has also been added in place of the old AM unit (which is included). The lights, turn signals, backup lights, horn, wipers, heater, defroster, and parking brake all work properly.
