Vehicle Description
1997 Ford Mustang GT Convertible
The 5.0 Mustang was the catalyst that ignited the second horsepower
revolution. Cheap, fast, durable, and with a huge collection of
upgrades available through the aftermarket, you could build a
Mustang capable of running with the world's fastest cars. Then Ford
ended the party and introduced a modern-tech 4.6 liter overhead-cam
engine for the Mustang. 5.0 enthusiasts screamed in horror. It was
the end of performancethey complained. It's 1973 all over again,
they cried. But then something miraculous happened: the 1997
Mustang.
For consignment, a 25-year run for this Pennsylvania original owner
consigned vehicle, always garage kept, a clean CarFax and 27
service records through the years. With a mere 20,249 title
verified miles, this car has been driven sparingly and enjoyed
thoroughly. So it was no surprise the consignor came to us with a
smile on his face, and regret in his heart, but someone's loss is
another's gain. In other words, this car could have your name on
it!
Exterior
Crystal clear headlights lead the way for this rounded version of
the Mustang. Bathed in 2 year only Autumn Orange original paint
which adorns the steel panels and neoprene bumpers, both looking
good and rust free. Gaps are well minded, badges are correct, and a
light beige, bordering on white canvas convertible top witha glass
rear window is on and functioning fab. On back, an air vent covefor
the rear quarters, and a spoiler for the trunk lid. With top down,
this car takes on an entirely new look, and has a snazzy tonneau
cover to smooth things over when the top is down. No add-ons, no
pinstriping and no modifications allow you to take in the
designer's vision as it was meant to be. Black accenting for the
sport mirrors, and glass trimmings and polished multi-spoke 17"
wheels are on all 4 corners wrapped in like new 245/45R17
rubber
Interior
With a swing of the beautifully designed rounded door panels I can
almost smell the new leather our bodiesare about to encounter!
Showroom new saddle brown leather shows with a few wrinkles due to
age but certainly no tears or cracks in the driver's seat,
passenger seat, and rear 2 plus 2 bench which appears to never have
been sat in. The dash utilizes a dual swoop eyebrow design
integrating a black dash top, and a lower saddle brown bottom and
steering wheel. A full gamut of gauges are displayed in an oval pod
in front of the driver and in the center of the dash is a CD player
and an AM/FM/Cassette radio known formally as the Mach 460 sound
system. Very clean tan carpeting with lightly soiled floor mats in
tan carpeting flood the floors.
Drivetrain
A pop of the hood reveals a slightly dusty but complete and
original 4.6L SOHC V8 wedged between the shock towers that produces
215hp. EFI feeds the precise amount of air and fuel to the modular
mill and no modifications are noted to the engine. We see power
steering, and air conditioning as well as hydroboost power brakes.
A 4R70W 4-speed automatic transmission sends power back to a Ford
8.8" rear axle that contains a 3.08 TracLock gearset. Reliability
and fun all wrapped up in one.
Undercarriage
Some minor surface rust on the usual suspects, and all else is just
clean and solid unibody panels for the floor pans and rockers. Even
the factory chalk marks are showing on the rear axle. As noted, the
independent coil spring suspension for the front, and a 4 link with
coil springs for the back provide the cat on carpet signature
handling. Hydro-boost power disc brakes are on all 4 corners, and
the OEM dual exhaust is clean and rust free, snarling its way
rearward.
Drive-Ability
This car fired right up and was rarin' to go on the test track. My
foot was ready too, and it was off to the races, with nice smooth
acceleration, bias free panic stopping, (we always test this
first!), and rail like handling with the signature Mustang
suspension and 17-inch shiners. Fully functional and just a blast
to drive with the top down and the Mach 460 turned up.
Right out of 1997 and into your driveway for your enjoyment and
driving experience, this decently powerful, rare orange covered,
off white convertible car with saddle colored leather interior
brings back the memories of the Mustangs that came before it, and
produces a great experience with the above assets. Why not put this
onto your garage, and yourself behind the wheel, and magically a
smile will appear on your face! And you'll be a member of the
"horsey set..."
